Prior to becoming the name that she is today, Billie Eilish struggled behind the scenes. The artist revealed her confidence wasn't always there, while she struggled with other setbacks behind the scenes. Among the setbacks includes her battle with Tourettes. Credit to Eilish as the artist has been very open about it in the past. She was also asked about it by hosts during their interviews.
In the following, we're going to reveal two specific interviews, featuring David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel. It seems like both hosts reacted differently to Eilish's tics during their interviews. It really can't be said if one handled it better than the other - but clearly, both hosts were looking out for Eilish, while wanting her to be as comfortable as possible.
We'll also take a look at other moments that took place during their interviews. Eilish in particular wasn't pleased with the aftermath of her time alongside Jimmy Kimmel. We'll reveal why she was unhappy, and what took place with the fans after the show.
Billie Eilish Had A Difficult Experience With The Fans After Her Appearance On Jimmy Kimmel Live
Billie Eilish's interviews alongside Jimmy Kimmel have always been very light-hearted. However, she did get in trouble with the fans on multiple instances, during and after her interviews on Live. Eilish revealed that she was given a hard time by fans for not knowing Van Halen, and blamed the moment on Kimmel for setting her up.
Although Eilish was able to poke fun at herself for that moment, she was not amused with what took place outside of the show. According to the artist, she was given a hard time by fans for not wanting to sign autographs.
She revealed, "I started to walk away because I realized none of these people actually cared about anything that had to do with me as a person," Billie explained. "I walked over there only to say hi, only to hug people and I got pictures of me shoved into my face. I got no love whatsoever, so I left and then I got booed and [got] called a little b***** and got told I was going to lose my Grammy nominations."
Not a pleasant moment but one Billie is well aware, comes with the fame.
David Letterman Asked Billie Eilish If She Wanted To Talk About Her Tourettes After Her Tics, While Jimmy Kimmel Avoided The Topic
Letterman notices the tic during the interview, and asks the artist if everything is okay, and if a fly entered the room. Once he finds out about Billie's Tourettes, he asks the artist politely if she wants to continue, or if she wants to expand on the topic. Eilish had no problems discussing the topic further, and the problems that come with it.
“What’s funny is so many people have it that you would never know,” Eilish said. “A couple artists came forward and said, ‘I’ve actually always had Tourette’s,’ and I’m not gonna out them because they don’t wanna talk about it, but that was actually really interesting to me.”
“The most common way that people react is they laugh because they think I’m trying to be funny…and I’m always left incredibly offended by that,” Eilish said.
Letterman received lots of praise for the way he handled the moment.
As for Jimmy Kimmel, he took an entirely different approach, and decided not to address it at all. There are examples of Eilish ticking during the interview, but Kimmel always downplays it, which is another great approach as well. The moment can be seen at the start of the interview below.
Ultimately, Eilish came out of both interviews looking great, and showing different sides of herself.
David Letterman Was Blown Away By Eilish's Process In Creating A Song
David Letterman was in for quite the treat alongside Billie Eilish, as the artist also revealed her process in creating a song. The iconic TV host quickly learned that Eilish's ways are extremely difficult, and involve a serious degree of perfectionism. Eilish breaks up her songs into several parts, ensuring all notes are hit as best as possible.
Letterman freaked over it, “To hear your voice in this context is a little bizarre because I’m looking at things there representing the voice, I’m hearing the voice – which is, oh my god – and you’re just sitting right there. Not a lot of people get this experience.”
It was certainly a unique experience for Letterman and the fans that were able to see her process. In addition, it was nothing but a positive to see Eilish discussing her difficulties with Tourettes. Without a doubt, she serves as a major role model for those struggling with it on the daily.
