J.K. Rowling, who famously penned the Harry Potter book series, has seemingly kicked a hornet's nest with her views on the trans community. A woman who once used her words to ignite the imaginations of global audiences, has now used her words to cause what some view as irreparable damage to her image and her franchise alike.

The actors of the Harry Potter films have a contrasting view to that of Rowling's, and some have spoken out against the author.

Subsequently, a feud has been waged, and there does not appear to be a single person willing to waver in their beliefs.

With lines in the sand firmly drawn, things are getting ugly.

To understand where things are now, it's important to discuss Rowling's essay that ignited this feud.

"For people who don’t know: last December I tweeted my support for Maya Forstater, a tax specialist who’d lost her job for what were deemed ‘transphobic’ tweets. She took her case to an employment tribunal, asking the judge to rule on whether a philosophical belief that sex is determined by biology is protected in law. Judge Tayler ruled that it wasn’t," Rowling penned.

The essay then outlines Rowling's beliefs and feelings regarding the trans community, as well as the blowback that she faced, in what she deemed "my fourth or fifth cancellation by then."

Having gone public with her views, many cast members of the Harry Potter franchise did the same, and since then, there has been a back-and-forth between the two sides.

Ruper Grint, who played Ron Weasley, said, "I firmly stand with the trans community and echo the sentiments expressed by many of my peers. Trans women are women. Trans men are men. We should all be entitled to live with love and without judgment," per USA Today.

Daniel Radcliffe, who played the titular character, gave Rowling her flowers for the role she played in his life, but spoke out in favor of the trans community.

"While Jo is unquestionably responsible for the course my life has taken, as someone who has been honored to work with and continues to contribute to The Trevor Project for the last decade, and just as a human being, I feel compelled to say something at this moment. Transgender women are women. Any statement to the contrary erases the identity and dignity of transgender people and goes against all advice given by professional health care associations who have far more expertise on this subject matter than either Jo or I," he said.

This was some time ago, and since then, neither Rowling nor the cast members have budged in their stance.

In a more recent social media exchange, a fan tweeted at Rowling about actors Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe forgiving her, after a report emerged about intervention in gender care.

"Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women's hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces," Rowling wrote, per BBC.

Over time, Rowling's words have reached the masses, and many fans have spoken out against her.

Just 6 months back, in response to a social media post from Rowling saying declining to say trans women are women, some fans sounded off on Reddit.

"Why does she care this much? Regardless of the fact that her stance is bigoted, full of hate, and offensive… why does it bother her to this degree? She’s made this her entire personality, her entire being is now being a TERF. I just don’t understand. What a bizarre single issue cause to take up like this," one user wrote as part of their response.

Another user was confused by Rowling caring so much about going against the trans community.

"The weirdest part is like…. she lives in a castle in scotland. when was the last time she even used a public bathroom? she literally never has to see another trans person again in her life if she chooses. she had an incredible legacy, an amazingly comfortable life, the respect of literally millions and millions of people, and she’s thrown it away…. for what? she is literally the last person on earth that trans people having equal rights affects? it’s out of pure hatred at this point, she can’t seriously believe she’s ‘standing up’ for anything or that she’s some kind of oppressed party," the wrote.
