During episodes of his podcast, Joe Rogan has interviewed stars about weight loss and spoken to JD Vance. Since Joe has tackled so many different topics, he has millions of listeners, which has helped him become rich enough that fans want to know how much he pays his staff. In addition to wanting to know what goes on behind the scenes of the podcast, fans are interested in Joe's opinion about many things, even including what he thinks about sitcoms.
Since The Big Bang Theory is one of the most successful sitcoms ever, the show's cast has become very rich and received a lot of jobs. The show's fans also are fascinated by stories about the teen star who was traumatized by their The Big Bang Theory audition and want to know if the show's cast are friends. However, based on what Joe Rogan has said in the past, he can't understand how The Big Bang Theory was so popular.
Joe Rogan Explained Why He Finds The Big Bang Theory's Success "Strange"
In June 2024, Ms. Pat made an appearance on Joe Rogan's podcast, "The Joe Rogan Experience" as can be seen in a YouTube upload of the episode. In the opening minutes of that podcast episode, Joe and Ms. Pat were talking about her sitcom, The Ms. Pat Show, and how it tackles difficult subjects with humor.
After Joe made it very clear that he respected what Ms. Pat was accomplishing with her sitcom, he began reflecting on that TV show genre. Considering that The Big Bang Theory is the most notable sitcom from the last several years, it makes sense that show came up in the conversation.
For anyone who has followed Joe's stand-up career and understands his personality, it isn't surprising that he isn't a fan of The Big Bang Theory. That said, it is interesting that Joe told Ms. Pat that he found The Big Bang Theory's popularity "strange."
During his discussion with Ms. Pat, Joe told his guest that he'd just seen a clip of The Big Bang Theory.
Ever since The Big Bang Theory premiered, the show has been hated by some people. As a result, Screen Rant published an article about why The Big Bang Theory was so hated in August 2018. That article argued that the main reason for the hatred was the show's characters being stereotypes instead of being fleshed out.
Joe then stated that seeing the clip of The Big Bang Theory made him find the show's success strange because he didn't understand why anyone would laugh at the show.
Why are people laughing at this? This is strange.
To be fair to The Big Bang Theory, however, Joe revealed that it wasn't a typical clip of the show that he had that reaction to.
While talking to Ms. Pat, Joe revealed that the clip he watched of the show that made him make that comment had been edited.
Based on what Joe has said in the past, he doesn't like The Big Bang Theory, no matter what clip of the show he sees. After all, Joe has criticized The Big Bang Theory in general during other episodes of his podcast.
As Joe explained, seeing a clip of The Big Bang Theory with the laughs edited out really made him think the show's success was "strange."
"I saw a clip of The Big Bang Theory, and it was a Big Bang Theory but without the laughs. They removed the laugh so you could see what the show actually is."
Before Joe brought up The Big Bang Theory, he and Ms. Pat were talking about sitcoms from the past in general. During that part of the conversation, Joe and his guest discussed the formats that sitcoms have followed in the past.
After Joe talked about how many sitcoms from the past were filmed in front of a live studio audience, Ms. Pat brought up why that changed over time.
In October 2024, Collider updated their list of the highest grossing television shows ever. According to that article, The Big Bang Theory is one of the most profitable TV shows ever made, as it came in fourth place on the list. The only shows that surpassed The Big Bang Theory on the list are Modern Family, Friends, and The Simpsons.
While talking to Joe, Ms. Pat stated that sitcoms began relying on pre-recorded laughs to make jokes that didn't work seem funnier.
"They went to canned laughs after. Which was much easier, you know. If you ain't wrote nothing that's funny and you ain't got nobody sitting there, you can just drop in the laughter."
It was that remark from Ms. Pat that inspired Joe to bring up how unfunny he found the clip of The Big Bang Theory with the laughs edited out. Learning that Joe is so against shows relying on canned or studio audience laughs is interesting given his own past.
Between 1995 and 1999, Joe starred in the sitcom NewsRadio. While NewsRadio never was hated the way The Big Bang Theory is, the show definitely featured a lot of audience laughs as a YouTube montage of Joe from the sitcom reveals.

Considering Joe's remarks about sitcoms after he starred in one, it makes sense that he gave up acting.
Joe Rogan Decided To Never Star In Another Sitcom After NewsRadio
After Joe Rogan starred in five seasons of NewsRadio, he practically gave up acting since he only went on to take a handful of roles. Based on what Joe said during episodes of his podcast, "The Joe Rogan Experience," he specifically decided to mostly give up acting after NewsRadio.
In August 2018, Macaulay Culkin appeared during an episode of "The Joe Rogan Experience" as can be seen in a YouTube upload of the episode.
During that episode, Macaulay brought up how much he liked NewsRadio and that he imagined that show was "a fruitful endeavor" for Joe. In response, Joe responded that he never wanted to star in another sitcom because no other show could live up to NewsRadio for him.
That's the reason why I never did another one. I don't wanna ruin that experience.
Another YouTube video of a clip from "The Joe Rogan Experience" showed Joe explaining why he knew being a professional actor after NewsRadio wasn't for him.
"It takes too long. It's not what I'm interested in. I'm more interested in podcasts and stand up, and I don't have enough time to do anything else other than UFC commentary."
Based on Joe's comments about The Big Bang Theory and his own acting experience, it seems like a great thing he found other careers he loves.
