Jennifer Aniston has not been in a public relationship since her marriage to Justin Theroux ended in divorce in 2018. In January this year, the actress hinted during an interview on Sirius XM that she was finally ready to delve back into the love pool.

"No one of importance has hit my radar yet, but I think it’s time," Aniston said. If history is anything to go by, the Friends star is bound to end up with an illustrious celebrity as her next lover.

The list of men that Aniston has been involved with reads somewhat like an ensemble cast in a blockbuster film. Maybe her most famous relationship was with Brad Pitt, although that ended as soon as Angelina Jolie came into the picture for him.

Other renown exes of the 53-year-old include - among others - Jon Stewart, Paul Rudd, Tate Donovan, and even Vince Vaughn, who she reportedly still affectionately refers to as 'my defibrillator.'

This cordiality does not exist with every one of her former beaus, however. John Mayer does not seem to have the fondest memory of his time with Aniston. The two were together for only a short period of time, but the musician would later call her out on a lot of things - including her apparent averseness to embracing technology.

What Happened Between Jennifer Aniston And John Mayer?

Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer reportedly met at an Oscars after-party in 2008, and things kicked off pretty fast between them. They dated for about one year, before eventually going their separate ways in 2009.

While Aniston has never been that outspoken about their relationship - or split for that matter, Mayer had a lot to say about it from the very onset. In a 2010 interview with Playboy magazine, he implied that their age difference was a big contributor to their breakup.

As the conversation about Aniston started, Mayer was quite complimentary about her, calling her 'the most communicative, sweetest, kindest person.' He even went ahead to say that the reason they had barely spoken about their split until that point was because of the regard they had for each other.

"We just have a regard for each other’s feelings that is pretty intense. It’s been a deep relationship, and it’s no longer taking place at all," Mayer said.

As the interview wore on, though, Mayer started to become rawer in his recollection.

Did John Mayer Write Songs About Jennifer Aniston?

At the time of the interview, John Mayer had just recently released his fourth studio album, titled Battle Studies. One of the songs in the album was Heartbreak Warfare, which many people assumed was inspired by his relationship with Jennifer Aniston.

The chorus of the song goes, 'If you want more love, why don't you say so?', while some of the other lyrics read, 'How come the only way to know how high you get me, is to see how far I fall?'

When Rob Tannenbaum of Playboy magazine put the question to Mayer whether the song was about Aniston, the musician was emphatic in his denial, saying, "I don’t write songs in order to stick it to my exes."

He also admitted that he had played the songs to her while he was in the recording process. He confirmed, however, that he had not sent her a CD of the album after it was done, which was in the wake of their separation.

What Did John Mayer Say About Jennifer Aniston's Appreciation For Technology?

It was then that the interviewer suggested that Jennifer Aniston might just get a bootleg copy of the album via BitTorrent. "If Jennifer Aniston knows how to use BitTorrent I’ll eat my shoe," retorted John Mayer.

He then went into a rant about the actress being outdated, and suggested that her celebrity was dependent on the dynamics of the pre-modern technology era.

"The brunt of her success came before TMZ and Twitter," he said. "I think she's still hoping it goes back to 1998. She saw my involvement in technology as courting distraction. And I always said, 'These are the new rules.'"

Mayer also then confirmed that this was one of the main reasons why things didn't work out between them. "One of the most significant differences between us was that I was tweeting," he explained.

Like Aniston, Mayer has gone on to have relationships with famous stars, including Jessica Simpson, Minka Kelly, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift. He was most recently linked with The Umbrella Academy star, Cazzie David.
