He was a pivotal part of The Big Bang Theory's success. However, fans haven't seen much of Johnny Galecki since the show came to an end after 12 seasons.
As we're going to reveal in the following, Galecki did touch on his future during an interview after TBBT came to an end. The actor discussed what was next, and what type of projects he'd like to be included in.
We'll reveal what Galecki had to say, and how he stayed true to that promise all these years later. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the private actor.
Let's get started.
Johnny Galecki Told Host Bryan Eliiot He Wanted To Take Time Off After The Big Bang Theory
Over the last couple of years, rarely has Johnny Galecki given out an interview relating to what he's currently up to. Among his final interviews took place on YouTube's Behind the Brand with host Bryan Elliot. Among the discussions was what was next for Galecki after The Big Bang Theory.
During the interview, Galecki made quite the reveal about his future. Galecki said that his plan was to take time off indefinitely, and perhaps take something on in the future behind the camera.
He revealed, "So tell us what's next," Elliot asks. "Right now, as far as the higher gun actor stuff I want to kind of take a break and let it run its course through my blood stream." Galecki continues, "I say that, but something always comes up."
It seems like this time, Galecki was actually true to his word as he put the focus elsewhere, welcoming his son in 2019. Galecki also revealed in the interview that he wanted to shift his focus to work behind the camera.
The moment can be seen below at the start of the interview.
Galecki's time away from Hollywood isn't due to a lack of offers either. In fact, Galecki got a great offer for a certain comedy after TBBT, but decided against it.
The Conners Reached Out To Johnny Galecki For An Extended Run, But He Decided To Stay Off The Map
TV Insider asked the question if The Conners said goodbye to Johnny Galecki for good during the season 5 finale.
Executive producers Bruce Helford and Dave Caplan admitted that they did in fact reach out to Galecki for a particular finale episode, but it just wasn't meant to be.
“We even approached [Galecki] for this episode, to be honest with you,” Helford told TVLine. “It was just one of those things where it didn’t work out — and like you say, he’s certainly taking a step away, taking a breather, and we understand that. But we have to deal with what’s going on in the Conners’ lives, so we just decided this was the time [to address David’s absence].”
“The last time Johnny was here, he really went out of his way to say how much he loved not only the legacy of the show, but what we’re doing with The Conners,” Caplan added. “He’s a big fan, and he loved being on the show. But real life tends to take priority, and if he needs to step away, we all respect that.”
Credit to Galecki for taking on the gig to begin with. Nonetheless, it seemed like the actor needed some much deserved time off, especially given the crazy Big Bang Theory schedule for all those years.
Johnny Galecki Was Ready For TBBT To End, But Didn't Like How It Came Together
Johnny Galecki and co-star Kaley Cuoco pondered the idea of The Big Bang Theory coming to an end during season 10. However, it wasn't meant to be, and Jim Parsons decided that season 12 was going to be his last. Although Galecki understood it was time to end the show, he admitted that Jim Parsons could have handled his departure differently.
Galecki explains, "I was shocked. We were just blindsided that day. And not necessarily shocked by Jim's decision, but that he hadn't had that conversation with his castmates first to prepare us."
He continues, "I stopped myself from doing so and I hugged [Jim] instead. Still, that's what literally went through my mind because it was tearing me to shreds watching Kaley break down and see the tears from everyone."
It was a tough reality for Galecki and the cast, though thankfully, all went well on the road to the finale. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Galecki, and if he'll make a return in front of the camera, given that his interests appear to be in the back of it.
