Bachelor in Paradise Season 10 is shaping up to be the spinoff's best yet, thanks to a brand-new location in Costa Rica and a surprising twist which saw the addition of Golden Bachelor and Golden Bachelorette contestants joining the cast for another shot at love.
So far, the season's most dramatic scenes have played out during the rose ceremonies. Viewers watched as Justin Glaze handed over his rose to his ex-girlfriend, Susie Evans, despite making a solid connection with Lexi Young. In the following episode, Golden contestant April Kirkwood gave her rose to The Bachelorette's Season 21 contestant, Jonathan Johnson, instead of another Golden.
In a recent interview, Jonathan reflected on that shocking moment and how he was certain he was going home. But, now that he gets to spend another day in paradise, will he find a solid connection?

Jonathan Johnson Called April Kirkwood Giving Him Her Rose The "Kindest Moment"
April Giving Jonathan Her Rose Meant Three Golden Men Were Eliminated
Bachelor in Paradise Season 10 hasn’t missed a beat when it comes to the drama—between solidified couples navigating trust issues and singles scrambling to secure a rose, the tension is high. Episode 4 ended with another jaw-dropping rose ceremony, with the women holding the power.
In a quick recap: with most of the younger contestants already paired up, only Jonathan Johnson and three Golden men were left standing. When Golden Bachelor alum April Kirkwood stepped up to give out her rose, she stunned everyone, Jonathan included, by choosing him. Her unexpected decision left the beach in complete shock.
During an interview on the Bachelor Happy Hour podcast, Jonathan reflected on that moment. He shared that he had his bags packed and was ready to leave Costa Rica, knowing that he did not make any solid connections.
“Everybody our age gets a rose and I’m smiling like an idiot because I’m happy for my friends. I’m like yes, everybody is good. They all seem like they’re in a relatively good place. And then [April] calls my name and I’m like ‘Me?'" Jonathan said.

- Jack Lencioni
- Ralph "RJ" Johnson
He continued, "And [she] calls me down and I’m like no way. And she’s just saying all these really nice, sweet things and for somebody who’s in a really anxious spot during filming, it was the kindest moment. And I keep telling anybody that asks me what it was like having the Goldens. I’m like, the Goldens saved ‘Paradise’ for me.”
Jonathan entered the beach with somewhat of a connection with Alexe Godin, but she shared that she only saw a friendship with him. He also went on a date with Jill Chin when she entered paradise a few days later, but again, sparks would not fly between the two.

There's a surprise twist coming to Bachelor in Paradise Season 10.
April Wasn't Interested In Jonathan In A Romantic Way
There Are No Rules About The Cast Mingling With One Another Despite Major Age Gaps
Before April gave her rose to Jonathan, she was seen heavily flirting with him that morning, so it wasn't a complete shock when she handed over her rose to him. There are no rules about Golden contestants mingling with the younger contestants, as host Jesse Palmer explained to the cast.
However, she did share a connection with Golden contestant Kim Buike, but he ultimately friendzoned her. Before the ceremony, she also shared a very passionate kiss with Jack Lencioni, so he might have been completely caught off guard when she said Jonathan's name instead of his.
However, April giving her rose to Jonathan did not mean that she wanted to explore a connection with him romantically. April had a private conversation with Jonathan in which he shared that he knew he was going home because he did not form any solid connections. April believed it was only right to give him her rose so that he could have a second chance, knowing more contestants could show up the following day for Jonathan.

In a conversation with Decider, April shared why she made the shocking decision to choose Jonathan instead of Jack, who she seemed to share a bond with.
"I always carry my heart in a wheelbarrow in front of me, not just on my sleeve. And when I was standing there on the bleachers, I was looking over. I’m pretty intuitive, and I didn’t see my forever there at that point in the show. He was not there at that time. I thought to myself, “This isn’t right. I really want love.” I really did go there to love," she remarked.
She continued, "So I was looking at everybody, and then I saw poor Jonathon, and I’ve been a guidance counselor and teacher for years and I always go for the downhearted person. So, I looked at him and I thought, “He’s young. He’s gorgeous. I think he’s wonderful. I’m gonna give him another chance."

Jonathan Made A Connection With Kat Izzo Before The Rose Ceremony
Will Jonathan Find A Connection Or Be Sent Home Next Episode?
There was a glimmer of hope that Jonathan might receive a rose from Kat Izzo during the Episode 4 ceremony. Tension had been brewing between Kat and Dale Moss after he failed to be upfront about kissing Alli Jo outside of a challenge. Despite Kat expressing her frustration, Dale dismissed her concerns and repeatedly told her to "dead it," showing little understanding for her feelings. Kat was clearly unhappy with how he handled the situation.
That night, Kat pulled Jonathan for a couple of private conversations where she expressed how she felt about Dale brushing off her feelings. In a confessional, Jonathan shared, "Kat deserves to feel chosen, reassured and as if she is the one. I like Kat. I think Kat is stunning. I think she’s incredibly intelligent."
Later, Kat would gush that maybe she shouldn't be putting all her eggs in one basket. "I love getting attention from Jonathon. I like laughing with him. So you never know. It's a rose ceremony. Things change on the fly," she said.
In fact, Dale seemed visibly frustrated and upset when Kat spoke privately with Jonathan, clearly worried that he might not receive her rose. Still, when it was time for the rose ceremony, she gave Dale another chance. But, they continued to be at odds before the night was over.
While more people will arrive on the beach in the next episode, Jonathan might have a chance to continue to grow a connection with Kat if he still chooses to do so.
