Michael Richards had to be very careful to avoid seriously injuring himself when he filmed Seinfeld.
Seinfeld Banned "The Bet" Episode That Saw Julia Louis-Dreyfus Use A Firearm
A fan was able to get his hands on quite the script. Seinfeld released its script for the banned episode, The Bet. Had this made it to air, the dark episode surely would have been the most controversial in the show's history, dealing with the topic of gun-ownership. Writer Larry Charles was behind the script, and he was known for dark and edgy material. However, this particular season two episode went unfinished?
What was it about?
- Elaine wanted to use her Second Amendment rights when taking over the J.Peterman Catalog.
- Elaine was supposed to get involved with firearms. This caused the cancelation.
- Production was stopped despite the sets being built.
According to the script, Elaine also pulls a gun in her friends' face. The word is that Louis-Dreyfus instantly refused to shoot the episode.
Larry Charles' thoughts on the potential episode:
- “Larry (David) and Jerry were extremely supportive of me, and my episodes tended to veer into violence and darkness, occasionally. They were super-supportive and loved that — they loved to have that aspect of the show. But in this case, I think what finally — no pun intended — ‘killed’ that episode was that it wasn’t funny enough.”

Michael Richards Struggled When Asked About Jerry Seinfeld's 'PC In Comedy' Scandal
Michael Richards seemed very uncomfortable when asked to talk about Jerry Seinfeld's comments on PC comedy.
Fans had plenty to say looking back at the script. Some argued if it was real, while others wanted to see how it played out on television.
Nonetheless, fans couldn't contain their excitement on Reddit.
- "This is incredible! I just got done reading. This is seriously top-tier Seinfeld. Larry Charles episodes were always my favorite. Absolutely amazing find. You've done the community a great service. I wish I could understand the hand-written notes better, because it would be a great insight into how Jerry/Larry edited the episodes, but the photo-copying didn't do their readability any favors."
- "Watch as the 10 people who bought low quality scans of the script crawl out of the woodwork desperate for validation for having the script before the public did."
Jason Alexander auctioned off the controversial script in 2022.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus Had Other Issues With Seinfeld Behind The Scenes
The Bet wasn't Julia Louis-Dreyfus' only issue during her time on Seinfeld. The actress also struggled behind the scenes at the start, given she wasn't given adequate camera time. Dreyfus made it clear to Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, she wanted more on the show.
“Well, I never really approached it from the perspective of my gender, per se. I wanted to just play ball with everybody,” Louis-Dreyfus said.
“I’m not going to lie, in the beginning, I didn’t always have a lot to do in certain episodes. And I would go to Larry and Jerry multiple times and say, ‘Hey, you guys, write me more, I need to be in this show more.’ That’s what I just kept doing. And they did.”

Jerry Seinfeld Told Seth Meyers He Was "Really Bothered" For Having To Apologize For A Gay Joke
Jerry Seinfeld's truthful interview with Seth Meyers got awkward during various moments.
Although Dreyfus could have used more lines, she was content that the show saw her for her character, and not gender.
“But you see, they didn’t write for me as a woman,” she added. “They just wrote for me, for this character, as opposed to this gender, which I think is instructive in a lot of ways from a writing point of view.”
Dreyfus clearly turned things around, winning an Emmy in 1996.
The actress admits to struggling once the show came to an end, but she has clearly found her way since, with a variety of different roles.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus Fired Shots At Jerry Seinfeld's Political Views
The Seinfeld cast was never overly sensitive when it came to their bond behind the scenes compared to the likes of Friends. In addition, the cast hasn't been afraid to share their own public opinions. In fact, Dreyfus called Jerry Seinfeld's political correctness a red flag.
Dreyfus said about Seinfeld, “When I hear people starting to complain about political correctness — and I understand why people might push back on it — but to me that’s a red flag, because it sometimes means something else,” she said. “I believe being aware of certain sensitivities is not a bad thing. I don’t know how else to say it.”
What did Jerry Seinfeld say that triggered Dreyfus?
- “This is the result of the extreme left and PC crap and people worrying so much about offending other people,” he said.
Dreyfus continued in a different interview, “My feeling about all of it is that political correctness, insofar as it equates to tolerance, is obviously fantastic. And of course I reserve the right to boo anyone who says anything that offends me, while also respecting their right to free speech, right?” she said.
Jerry did not issue a response in return.
