The Big Bang Theory found great success thanks to its main cast, however, the supporting characters also played a huge role.

Kate Micucci as Lucy was one of those underrated faces, a theme that followed her career. She had a blast on the show and was complimentary towards her peers, especially the likes of Simon Helberg.

Kate Micucci Had A Blast Working Alongside Kunal Nayyar On The Big Bang Theory

Prior to making her debut on The Big Bang Theory, Micucci admitted alongside The Hollywood Reporter to being a big fan of the series. She would even rewatch scenes to examine reactions further, "I’ve definitely watched a lot of it. I’ll rewind parts just to see a reaction over and over again. I’m a huge I Love Lucy fan — which is cool because I play character named Lucy — and Big Bang is like that show for me when I rewind to catch certain moments."

Micucci was a huge success on the show, and she really hit it off alongside on-screen partner Kunal Nayyar. According to Kate, working alongside Kunal was a dream come true.

"I did a dance in my apartment because I was so excited to get to play something with such heart that is so funny. It’s been a dream to do scenes with Kunal."

Micucci further added that the role was that much more special given that it was loosely based off her real-life self, as a shy person growing up.

Kate Micucci's Big Bang Theory Audition As Amy Put Her On The Show's Radar

Sure, losing out on a role can be disappointing for an actor or actress, however, just auditioning can open up a door. That's exactly what ended up taking place with Micucci. She auditioned for the role of Amy Farrah Fowler, and although she wasn't successful, The Big Bang Theory creators didn't forget about her.

"They thought of me for Lucy because I auditioned for Amy years ago, and they liked and kept me in the back of their minds. When this character came up, that’s how I ended up playing Lucy. I’m so excited to be playing this role."

Kate clearly had no hard feelings toward Mayim Bialik who got the role instead, calling her among the most talented within the TBBT cast.

"I was watching the episode where Amy goes to a wedding with Leonard and they’re dancing together, and Amy has the sweetest and cutest reaction to Leonard when they’re doing the chicken dance. I rewound that four times, and I love Mayim Bialik in that and told her as much," Kate said about Mayim Bialik.

Ultimately, not only did the actress contribute on-camera with a reoccurring role as Lucy, but she also played a role behind the scenes as well, showing off her writing skills.

Kate Micucci Was Also Influential Behind The Scenes On The Big Bang Theory As A Musical Writer

Not only did Micucci work on the series, but she also helped out behind the scenes as well, helping to write a song. The idea was to write something based on Wolowitz and how he can't live without Bernadette.

Kate embraced the role and had a blast with it. "We were on set every day. It was so exciting to watch Simon and the cast sing it. Simon is such an amazing actor and musician; he never failed to bring us to tears."

"Steve Molaro called us. It seemed our music/comedic sensibility lined up with the show. Also, both Riki and I are huge fans of the show and have both been on it, so we were excited to write a song that was funny but also had a lot of heart," Kate stated speaking about how she landed the creative gig.

At the age of 42, the actress has shown no signs of slowing down with multiple projects lined up in 2022, including MultiVersus, Central Park and Clerks III.
