Summary

  • Kate Middleton to attend Wimbledon final despite ongoing cancer treatment, showing strength and recovery progress.
  • Prince William's protective nature over Kate's public appearances highlights his love and concern for her well-being.
  • William's control over Kate's schedule stems from the trauma of Princess Diana's death.

Any other year, this would not have been surprising at all, as Kate Middleton is a huge tennis fan and regularly attends the Wimbledon tournament and even presents the trophies. This year, however, her health has to take precedence. She's still undergoing treatment for her cancer diagnosis, so whether or not she would attend the tournament was a mystery until today.

This decision was surely not made lightly. Prince William has apparently been more protective of his wife than ever and was reluctant to allow her to attend public events as he feared for her health.

Fans will be elated to read that Kate Middleton will be attending the men’s singles final at Wimbledon on Sunday, July 14. While a lot of people have been hoping for this, it wasn’t a guarantee, as she’s still in recovery from her cancer diagnosis. However, according to PEOPLE, Kensington Palace confirmed she’s feeling well enough to make an appearance at the event.

Not long ago, a friend of hers had spoken with the press, explaining the conditions that needed to be met in order for the Princess to attend Wimbledon.

“It is no secret that she would dearly love to be there, but when you are having chemo, as she herself said, there are good days and bad days,” the friend explained to the Daily Beast.

“A lot depends on the timing of the treatments. She made it to Trooping the Colour, so if she can make Wimbledon, she will,” they added, giving fans hope.

And it seems the hope was not misplaced, as Kate has found the strength to attend.

Her friend referenced the Princess’ statement from not long ago, when she talked about having “good and bad days” with chemo, and clarified that she wasn’t “out of the woods” yet. This weekend, however, is clearly among the good days.

Prince William Allegedly Has The Final Say Over Her Public Appearances

If Kate Middleton is attending the men’s singles final at Wimbledon, that means Prince William signed off on it, which means she really must be feeling better.

Just days ago, former royal butler Paul Burrell shared some insight into the family dynamic in Kensington Palace since Kate's diagnosis, and how the burden of decision-making now falls almost entirely on Prince William. He wants to make sure the Princess doesn't push herself too hard, as she loves public service, so he apparently has the final say on any public appearance she might make during her recovery.

Kate “knows the world will want to see her”, but Prince William is “fiercely protective” and he “will decide whether she's fit enough” to resume her duties, Paul Burrell explained.

“William controls this household and William will decide whether she’s well enough to do this because he’s the one that protects the family - fiercely. There’s no way he’s going to subject Kate to intrusion that she can’t handle. He’s so fiercely protective.”

His desperate need to protect his wife from exposure, Paul revealed, stems from his fear of her suffering like his mother, Princess Diana, did. She didn't have anyone to protect her from the paparazzi, but he will shield Kate from harm. That's the reason the Princess lets William have control over her schedule.

“With William by her side, Kate’s safe because he will take care of her and would never let anyone harm her. I think she trusts William implicitly and he has the final say.”
