Summary

  • Prince William is in control of Kate Middleton's public appearances while she's recovering.
  • Fans shouldn't expect Kate to return to normal too quickly, as she's making progress but still has good and bad days during her treatment.
  • With Prince William by her side, Kate is slowly getting stronger and will resume her official duties when she's ready.

Ever since announcing her diagnosis, Kate Middleton has been prioritizing taking care of herself. Fans have certainly noticed her absence, as she has been one of the hardest-working senior royals for years, but she and Prince William have kept mostly out of the public eye ever since so she can focus on her recovery.

However, after she made an appearance at King Charles' birthday parade, fans became eager to know when they would be able to see her again. A friend of hers recently spoke about it, trying to temper expectations, and now a former employee of the royal family has explained what the conditions for her return to the spotlight are.

While Kate Middleton’s recovery is seemingly going well, Prince William is still not comfortable with her being exposed to the public too much, and that reportedly led to him becoming much more controlling of her day-to-day life.

Former royal butler Paul Burrell spoke about the situation and revealed that, while the Princess of Wales would like to join more public outings, she’s accepted that, in this case, her husband knows best. In her enthusiasm, she might push herself too much, and William won’t allow that to happen.

Paul explained that Kate “knows the world will want to see her”, but Prince William is “fiercely protective” and he “will decide whether she's fit enough” to resume her duties.

“William controls this household and William will decide whether she’s well enough to do this because he’s the one that protects the family - fiercely. There’s no way he’s going to subject Kate to intrusion that she can’t handle. He’s so fiercely protective.”

The former royal butler went on to share that Prince William’s protectiveness “absolutely” stems from the still painful and traumatic loss of his mother, Princess Diana. The idea of Kate getting hurt because she was too exposed is unbearable to him, and the Princess understands that.

“With William by her side, Kate’s safe because he will take care of her and would never let anyone harm her. I think she trusts William implicitly and he has the final say.”

Kate Middleton Attended One Official Event Since Her Diagnosis

After she announced her diagnosis, the Princess of Wales joined only one official engagement, accompanied by Prince William and their children. It was the Trooping the Colour ceremony on June 15, to celebrate the King's birthday, but before she finally faced the public, she made it clear that fans shouldn't expect her to return to normal.

"I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting," she said in a statement. "But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well."

"I'm looking forward to attending The King's Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet."

It's good that she has Prince William looking after her, and that she's aware that she shouldn't push herself before she's ready. If fans are patient, Kate will slowly but surely resume her official duties, as she's getting stronger every day.
