Reality television has multiple ways to keep viewers hooked. From fights between cast members, to tragic storylines and off-camera antics, there is always drama in the reality world. One might argue that this is a key element in the success of the genre.

Relationships and the love lives of reality stars are also a way to hook viewers' interest. Katie Maloney might be a Vanderpump Rules alum, but she is still on the tips of people's tongues. She recently revealed she's in a new relationship. However, the identity of her boyfriend was kept secret for months.

There were, however, rumors about who the mystery man was. Fellow cast members and even Katie's ex-husband, Tom Schwartz, weighed in to comment. Katie would eventually reveal her new boyfriend with a sweet post on social media.

Katie Revealed Her Boyfriend's Identity After Keeping It A Secret For Months

It seems that Katie Maloney is finally ready to reveal her relationship with boyfriend Nick Martin. Nick has made a name for himself as the guitarist of the band Sleeping With Sirens. The Vanderpump Rules alum celebrated Nick’s birthday, writing on Instagram, “Happy Birthday my ❤️!!!!!” The caption was posted alongside a photo of Katie lovingly gazing at Nick.

Romance rumors sparked two months earlier and Katie never publicly confirmed their relationship until this post. In October, Katie confirmed she was seeing someone new, much to the surprise of fans. However, she didn't reveal the person's identity. “I have a boyfriend,” Katie revealed to co-host Dayna Kathan on their Disrespectfully podcast. “Yeah, I’m in love, everybody. I’m really happy.”

When discussing her relationship, Katie said, “This weekend, I went to go see my boyfriend. He has to travel for work, so I went to go meet up with him and hang out with him and spend some time. It was really amazing ’cause I hadn’t seen him in a few weeks and just being able to, like, spend some quality time and just be around him was really necessary and really nice.”

She added, “He’s the most wonderful person I’ve ever met. He’s very lovely and he just makes me feel really special and he’s really special and, yeah, I’m just really happy.”

Scheana Shay, another Vanderpump Rules alum, revealed later that she met Nick. Scheana had nothing but nice things to say about him.

“There’s been some things online recently. I’ve seen little bits and pieces. But let me tell you, he could not have been nicer,” Scheana told listeners during an episode of her own podcast. “He’s from San Diego and we just talked about that. Then I ran into them again later back at the hotel at the end of the night, and [he] was just such a sweet guy. I caught the end of their set.”

Katie and Nick's dynamic was a pleasant surprise to Scheana. Her comments did get a lot of attention, though. This prompted Lala Kent to joke about Scheana saying too much about Nick without Katie's permission. She also revealed a possible reason why Katie wanted to keep things private.

“Scheana Shay was the one that confirmed Katie Maloney’s relationship. She told me, ‘I accidentally confirmed it,'” Lala jokingly said on the Give Them Lala podcast in November. “[Katie and Nick] haven’t confirmed [their relationship] because what I read is he is going through a messy divorce and they have to keep it quiet.”

Katie Was Married To Tom Schwartz Before Her Relationship With Nick

Two years prior to her romance with Nick, Katie split from Tom Schwartz. The two were married for six years before divorcing in 2022. Katie would spill on her decision to leave Tom over two years after filing for divorce. Katie opened up on the Brutally Honest Anna podcast about the divorce and its aftermath. Katie talked about whether she would be open to getting married again.

“If it means not having to get divorced again, then I will avoid marriage,” she said. “[Divorce is] really devastating no matter who asks for it, no matter how necessary it is, it is really just a mindf*** to go through that with somebody. But if I met someone and I fell in love and they were like, ‘I really want marriage. That is super important to me,' then I would do it for them. But for myself? No.”

Katie also talked about Tom's struggle with major commitments. According to Katie, this made her increasingly concerned about his personal growth. She said this was a major factor in what led to their divorce.

“A lot of times, I think he is still the same person that I married. And that person is wonderful. But that person, I also fell in love with when I was 25 years old,” she said. “I’ve grown a lot. I feel like I really had to drag him through a lot of phases in life… committing, moving in together, getting engaged, getting married, talking about having kids. All of those things… I don’t know why I did that. He was just so unsure.”

According to Katie, she “normalized bad behavior” that she “didn’t deserve,” and decided to file for divorce once it became clear things wouldn't improve. Katie said that she wanted a partner with the “same goals and intentions” as her. She also said her partner needed to have a similar vision for their future. Katie said that Tom didn't fit that description.

“I’m not saying I was innocent in all of it, of course,” she revealed. “I can be very difficult. But, ultimately, I was just with somebody that didn’t know how to be a partner… Maybe I was still in love with him, but emotionally, it became very difficult to be with him. There was a lot of hurt that was built up. He cheated on me in the past — and so there were things I hadn’t healed from that were definitely weighing on me and affected my feelings towards him. But, all in all, I was still very much in love with this person and wanted to be with them but they just didn’t know how.”

Kaite and Tom had two dogs, Butter and Gordo, when they were together. Luckily, the two have been able to remain friends and do a good job co-parenting the dogs. Katie said she always found it "sad" when couples became "strangers" once they broke up. Katie has maintained friendly relationships with all of her exes because of this, including Tom.

“With Tom and I, our problem was never our friendship. We had a great friendship,” she said. “It was when I needed him to step up to be a partner, that’s where he struggled the most. So when we broke up, there was no longer that pressure on him or I on this marriage… We just kind of have been able to have this fun banter and talk. That fun little part of what we had is still there, even though it’s not romantic.”

Tom Reacted To Katie's New Relationship Before Nick's Identity Was Revealed

Tom was in attendance at Lisa Vanderpump’s annual Vanderpump Dog Foundation Gala in November 2024. During the event, he spoke with Page Six, who asked him what he thought of Katie's new relationship.

“I haven’t met her new man, but I’m so happy for her,” he told the outlet. “Although, she did announce it on my birthday!” Tom jokingly added. “I think it was Nick [Viall]'s idea.”

As it turns out, Tom's media company produces the Disrespectfully podcast, where Katie first revealed her new relationship that October. At the time of Tom's interview, the identity of Katie's new man was still not revealed. An insider reported to Page Six that Katie met Nick through mutual friends who work in the music industry. They are rumored to have “bonded” over the work each of them has done in the hospitality business.

“Katie loves the emo music scene and has been a fan and friend of Nick’s band for some time,” the source shared. “While the pair started out as friends, things took a turn this past summer in August, and their relationship developed really quickly.”

Tom did make it clear to the outlet that there were no hard feelings about Katie finding someone else. According to Tom, he loves “to see her just thriving” in the wake of their divorce. He also echoed Katie's sentiments when confirming they are in a “really good place” while being co-parents to their dogs.

“We’re buddies. We’re not BFFs — I don’t want to overhype it, but we’re cool,” Tom said. “We’re in a good place. We’re buddies again. There’s no friction or tension.”

It makes sense that Tom doesn't have any bad feelings about Katie moving on, since he has done the same. Tom met his girlfriend, Sophia Skoro, in December 2023 at Schwartz & Sandy's. Sophia works as a media planner. The two went public with their romance the following year. Since then, they have been sharing highlights from their time together on Instagram.
