Kelly Clarkson only finalized their messy divorce last year, but the exes remain committed to co-parenting. So much so, Kelly recently revealed the pair spent time together with their kids at her Montana Ranch earlier this year – the one he just moved out of.
“It’s obviously been a rough couple years so it was really important to me to, like, shut down for a minute,” the singer said during an appearance on Today on Tuesday.
So, she took her two children – daughter River, 8, and son Remi, 6 – from Los Angeles to Montana to spend time on her million-dollar ranch.
“I literally four-wheeled in the mountains, and I have a lot of water on my property so my sister, my nephew and I, and a couple friends just spent the whole summer in the mountains, just hanging out in nature,” the talk show host continued.
Kelly Didn’t Want Her Kids To Split Their Summer Between Parents
Kelly revealed that she spent time with her ex-husband while in Montana, largely so their kids wouldn’t have to divide their time.
“The kids were with me and with their dad,” she explained. “It was nice because they usually have to travel a lot because of our separation so we were both in Montana so, it was the first time I think my kids felt more centered as well.”
Kelly & Brandon Just Stopped Fighting Over Her Montana Ranch
Kelly’s admission may come as a surprise for some, as she just finished a lengthy legal battle with Brandon over her Montana ranch. In fact, he was living at the property up until a few months ago, while she resides full-time in L.A. with their kids.
Although the musician bought the property after getting married, Kelly and Brandon’s prenup stipulated that any assets bought independently during the union would remain separate. Kelly purchased the home alone in 2019 for $10.4 million.
However, Brandon tried to prevent Kelly from selling the ranch during their divorce by claiming it was “marital property.”
After over a year of arguing, a judge eventually determined the ranch belonged to Kelly, as per the prenup. But Brandon was allowed to stay on the property until June 2022. He was ordered to pay $12,500 each month in rent, though Kelly claimed the home cost $81,000 per month in upkeep.
Brandon has since moved into a $1.8 million home nearby in Butte, Montana. Despite previously working as a talent manager, Brandon is now run a full-time ranching business.
Now that the property is solely in Kelly’s possession, the singer is free to live in it, use it as a vacation home, or sell it off.
