We've seen a lot of ups and downs on 'The Masked Singer' throughout the last couple of seasons. We've seen reveals fans were not pleased with - though on the contrary, we also saw some great moments featuring the late Bog Saget, and JoJo resurrecting her career on the show. In this instance, fans were very sour and so were some of the celeb judges, when Rudy Giuliani was revealed as the Jack in the Box. Let's take a look at how it all went down.
What Happened Between Ken Jeong And Rudy Giuliani On 'The Masked Singer'?
At first, Robin Thicke and Ken Jeong actually enjoyed Giuliani's performance, this was before he was unveiled as the Jack in the Box. Things would sour later, however, we'll have more on that in a bit.
In truth, it wasn't the first time that the show pushed limits. They brought on another controversial political figure in 2020, none other than Sarah Palin.
Looking back on her gig, Palin would reveal alongside EW that she had a blast in the role.
"I knew it would be so refreshing and so freeing and well, in a real respectful way, kind of a walking middle finger to the haters out there in the world where I could do whatever I wanted to do and not care what anybody said because they wouldn’t know until after the fact. So it all worked out."
Palin would further admit that she never received such a reaction in her entire career while on the reality show, "I've been working for like 12 years with all these intellectual, political commentaries and all this — no reaction like I got from The Masked Singer," she said. "It was so positive. It was so encouraging. I just absolutely loved it. I just feel really blessed that you guys even asked me if I want to do it."
Well, Giuliani seemed to have enjoyed his experience, however, the panel of celebs weren't exactly as thrilled.
Ken Jeong Stayed Quiet During The Reveal And Then Left The Stage With Robin Thicke
Everyone was in shock during the reveal and not a single person predicted it was Rudy Giuliani. Nick Cannon stated, "Well, Mr. Giuliani, with all of the controversy that's surrounding you right now, I think it surprises us all that you're here on 'The Masked Singer.' "
"Me too," Giuliani responded.
The politician would try to make light of the moment, stating that he did it for his new granddaughter, to show her that you can do anything. He would also state that he took on the gig as a way to have fun, something he hasn't been doing.
"I want (Grace) to know that you should try everything," Giuliani added. "Even things that are completely unlike you and unlikely. I couldn't think of anything more unlike me and unlikely than this. And I enjoy the show. I have for years. And it just seemed like it would be fun, and I don't get to have a lot of fun."
McCarthy and Scherzinger continued to dance during the follow-up performance, however, Jeong had seen enough, saying "I'm done," while walking off the stage. It appears as though Robin Thicke also left, as he was not in the shot alongside the others during the final performance.
It was quite the moment and of course, one that had the fans talking.
What Did The Fans Think Of Rudy Giuliani Appearing On 'The Masked Singer'?
Fans agreed, it was a very controversial moment. And for a lot of people Ken handled the situation the best. Fans also acknowledged that the network didn't post the moment on their Twitter timeline or IG account, which is very telling.
"You can tell this one is controversial when they haven't put any of the performance or reveal on their twitter feed."
"Ken handled it very professionally."
"I see that the hosts are still guessing super famous people when almost everyone that participates was famous like years ago lol."
"Ken and Robin weren't wrong or immature for what they did. First off, Ken wasn’t the only one to walk off stage, It was him and Robin went after Ken (it was cut out). Second, Ken didn’t make anything political at all, he didn’t have to stand there for the rest of Rudy's performance."
It certainly was a moment that had everyone talking.
