Los Angeles has had a rough start to 2025 with a series of horrific wildfires that have displaced thousands from their homes. Particularly in the Malibu and Pacific Palisades areas, many celebrities and reality TV stars have lost their houses to the flames, including the likes of Paris Hilton and Mel Gibson.
Kim Kardashian recently spoke up about those combatting the fires not getting the pay they deserve. The reality star took to Instagram to share her displeasure over the firefighters' poor salaries.
Kim Called Out The California Governor
Kim posted to her Instagram story about how she felt that the firefighters on the scene were underappreciated. In her post, she explained how the teams were working tirelessly to keep the city safe:
On all 5 fires in Los Angeles, there are hundreds of incarcerated firefighters, risking their lives to save us. They are on the Palisades fire and Eaton fire in Pasadena working 24 hour shifts. They get paid almost nothing, risk their lives, some have died, to prove to the community that they have changed and are now first responders. I see them as heroes.
Kim wasn't done with her statement there. She went on to plead with the state's governor, Gavin Newsom, to do something about their low pay:
I am urging [Gavin Newsom] to do what no Governor has done in 4 decades, and raise the incarcerated firefighter pay to a rate [that] honors a human being risking their life to save our lives and homes.
Kim Faced Her Own Wildfire Controversy
Kim's strongly worded message comes on the heels of her own controversy surrounding the fires. Last week, she received backlash from fans after posting ads for her clothing brand, Skims, on the same day that tens of thousands of residents were forced to evacuate from their homes due to the oncoming fires.
Given the timing of Kim's calling out the governor, it's hard to say whether she was doing so solely to prove that she was dedicated to the issue at hand.
