The Kardashian-Jenners have debuted a wide range of products over the years, from tequila and health supplements to beauty and fashion lines. But Kim Kardashian's most recent business venture – an energy drink – is causing controversy because of its dangerous caffeine content.
The reality star partnered with wellness brand Alani Nu to release a limited-edition energy drink called Kimade.
Kim announced the collaboration on Instagram with a simple caption, writing “KIMADE. Coming soon with @AlaniNutrition.” The post was accompanied by photos of Kim in a white bodysuit and matching heels, posing in a gym with the energy drink at her feet.
Kim Kardashian’s Energy Drink Kimade Is Causing Controversy
Even with few details about the drink, Kim’s Instagram announcement was soon flooded with a variety of comments, many of which were critical of her new product launch. "I feel like this collab would’ve made more sense for Khloe," one person wrote. Another added, "The fact that Kim K will do anything to stay relevant!"
Some comments shamed Alani Nu for partnering up with The Kardashian star. "Bad choice on this one @alaninutrition," a comment read.
But as new details emerge about Kim’s energy drink, there does appear to be cause for concern, at least in terms of the ingredients.
The Kimade drink features 200mg of caffeine in its 12-oz can, which is more than Red Bull and Monster energy drinks.
As The Takeout explains, Kim’s energy drink contains just as much caffeine as Logan Paul’s new beverage, Prime, which has caught the attention of the Senate since it’s primarily marketed to youth and children.
“Many physicians have serious concern for Prime, and I write to specifically urge your agency to investigate Prime for its claims, marketing and caffeine content,” Senator Chuck Schumer wrote in a letter to the FDA.
Although Kim’s drink isn’t even on shelves yet, it’s likely to receive similar criticism to Logan Paul’s drink considering the caffeine content is comparable in both beverages.
According to the FDA, the average person should exceed no more than 400 milligrams a day, which means that consuming more than two of Kim’s energy drinks in a day can be dangerous to a person’s overall health.
Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS Products Saved A Woman’s Life
So far, Kim hasn’t responded to the controversy surrounding her new energy drink. However, not all of the reality star’s products have come under fire. In fact, her SKIMS bodysuit was recently praised for helping a woman survive a shooting.
Earlier this week, Angelina Wiley claimed in a TikTok that she was wearing a SKIMS bodysuit under her dress when she was shot four times on New Year’s Even in Kansas City, Missouri. Angelina credits the bodysuit’s tight fabric from preventing her from bleeding out.
The video has gone viral. Kim even saw and reshared the TikTok, adding a series of praying hand emojis to her response.
Kim started SKIMS in 2019, and it’s now estimated to be worth over $4 billion. So, while her energy drink may be off to a controversial start, there’s no denying her SKIMS empire is continuing to grow.
