Each episode of The Kardashians seems to show the family members in a new undertaking, trying something they've never done before. The most recent episode, "We're Going Camping," is no exception to this rule. When Khloé gets the idea of taking an RV trip to the desert, Kim is scooped up for an overnight trip to the wilderness.
Indeed, in this episode of the reality TV show, we see the women in the family going on a very unexpected excursion: heading to the desert to go camping in Joshua Tree—without any of their children. For Kim, the unusual outing makes her reflect on time away from her kids and what their dynamic will look like in the years to come.
Kim Isn't Ready To Be A Momager To North
While on the drive to Joshua Tree, Kim, Kris, and Khloé all enjoy a ride in a luxurious RV. As they nap, eat snacks, and chat among themselves, Kim reveals that she's getting some "rare" time off from parenting, as all four of her kids are currently in China with their father (music mogul Kanye West).
Kim explains that she is of two minds when it comes to being away from her children. On one hand, it allows her to relax and unwind when she isn't on the clock as a mother. At the same time, she does worry about being so far away from her kids, knowing that the only way she could contact them was over the phone, and even then, there was a serious time change.
In particular, Kim describes that her relationship with North has really transformed in recent years:
North is in China with her dad. She's performing with him. But she is still my baby, so she calls me for everything.
Sure enough, North calls Kim on the drive, phoning her from her hotel room in China before she goes to sleep. Kim is concerned to hear that her daughter has only slept a couple of hours and is hungry because she can't figure out how to order room service.
Though Khloé teases her sister for talking to her kids before bed, knowing that Kim has teased her in the past for the same exact thing, Kim says it's entirely different because her children are on another continent. (This is something that Kim called Khloé out for on the last season of the show, as fans will remember.) Kim holds her ground and stays on the phone with North, assuring her daughter that she'll be in touch again soon:
We're in the desert, so just in case it cuts out, I love you so much. I'll talk to you definitely before the show.

The Kardashians Season 6 Episode 8 Recap: Legally Kim
Kim heads to a firefighting concentration camp to learn more about prison reform.
After the phone call, Kim reflects on North's blossoming career. Though her daughter is hardly in her teenage years, after her performance in "The Lion King" at the Hollywood Bowl, more offers for her began to come in. Kim tells the cameras that, immediately after North's performance in the musical, she received an offer to do another show based in London.
While Kim briefly considered the offer, ultimately she decided that it was too much too soon for her eldest child. In a candid disclosure to the cameras, Kim explains that becoming a "momager" to North would mean that she herself would have to "take a step back" from her own career—and, in really thinking about it, that isn't something she's quite ready to do yet. This means that while North may participate in a performance here and there, Kim won't be pushing her to have a full career just yet.
Kim Will Continue To Focus On Her Own Career
In the meantime, Kim is plenty busy with her own work. On top of running her company, Skims, she also talks about some other work she's getting into during the episode. While eating dinner outside in Joshua Tree with her sister and mother, Kim reveals that she's going to be working on a new Ryan Murphy TV show, one with a legal premise that interests her. The show is going to be filming in LA, which comes as a relief to her family members, knowing that Kim won't be traveling for it.
Kim also explains that she's a bit nervous to be taking part in the project, as the rest of the cast is full of impressive actors, making her self-conscious of her own acting abilities. The project in question is called "All's Fair," and some of the other cast includes big names like Sarah Paulson (a Ryan Murphy darling), Niecy Nash, Glenn Close, and Naomi Watts. As Kim rattles off the cast list to Kris and Khloé, they're impressed and understand her anxiety.

The Kardashians Season 6 Episode 7 Recap: Bear Sighting
MJ celebrates her 90th birthday and Kris calls security on a bear.
For the rest of the episode, we see Kim and her family members genuinely enjoying their time in the desert, and Kim isn't shown calling her children any further. The three of them tease their other family members for cutting out of the trip, particularly Kendall, whose idea to get an RV was hers in the first place. They also joke about Kourtney, who they say uses the "baby excuse" to get out of any outing she's not interested in.
In the end, Kim, Kris, and Khloé are grateful for their unconventional outing, even if they all come to the agreement that they're not exactly cut out for the wilderness. They each reflect that they're happy to have the quiet family time together, though at the very end of the episode, the cameras catch Kris packing up in the middle of the night and driving back to LA, having had her fill of camping.
