Kim Kardashian first gained public attention thanks to her connection with Paris Hilton. The subsequent release of her sex tape led to her becoming a reality star. Kim recently made a revelation about the marriage which shocked viewers.

Kim Revealed She Covered Most Of The Cost Of Her Ring When Marrying Kris Humphries

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries were married for a mere 72 days before things ended in divorce. However, that doesn't mean Kim has forgotten the details of their union. In fact, Kim not only still remembers that time very well, but she is open to talking about it publicly.

During a recent episode of The Kardashians, Kim talked about her past marriages and the rings she collected from those unions. This is when viewers were shocked to learn that Kim's ex-husbands didn't all pay for the rings they gave her. Kim made the revelation that Kris didn't even cover half the cost of his wedding ring.

Kim told viewers that her first husband, Damon Thomas, got her a "cushion cut [diamond ring] that was 14 carats." Kim married Damon when she was only 19. The two were married for three years and eventually got a divorce in 2003.

Kim then spoke about her second ring, and said that she "had to give" it to Kris. Kim explained that she "didn't keep it" and said, "I was pregnant with North, still married to him, and in order to divorce him, he said I had to give him the ring in the divorce. The ring that I bought. He contributed a fifth [of the cost]." Kim said that the "whole situation was just really hard for" her.

She explained, "At the time, I just thought, 'Holy s***, I'm 30 years old, I better get this together. I better get married.' Kim then revealed the moment she understood the marriage wasn't right, saying, "I knew on the honeymoon it wasn't going to work out."

Kim Once Said That She Owed Kris An Apology For The Way She Handled The Divorce

In 2021, Kim opened up on the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reunion episode. During the discussion, Kim admitted she felt bad about the way things ended between her and Kris. She even said she believed she owed him an apology. When reflecting on some key moments in the series, host Andy Cohen mentioned the couple's short-lived marriage. Kim told Andy that she was very nervous about getting married to Kris, and said that she felt "pressured" since the ceremony was to be filmed for the show.

Kim's mother, Kris Jenner, even revealed that she tried to talk Kim out of the marriage the night before the rehearsal dinner.

"What you said to me is: 'I'm going to put you in a car, no one will find you, just leave and I'll handle it,'" Kim remembered. "And I thought, 'Okay, we're filming this for a TV show. If I leave, I'm going to be known as the runaway bride forever and it's going to be a huge joke, and I think I just have cold feet.' So I was like, 'Okay guys, it's just cold feet, I got this, it's cold feet, we're filming the show.'"

"Would you say you partially went through with the wedding because of the show?" Andy asked. "Yes," Kim replied. "Because I felt pressured, I felt like I was going to let everyone down." Andy then asked Kim what the breaking point in her short-lived marriage was, and she said that it happened when she began to feel "claustrophobic"during their time living together. "He had a size like, 17 shoes lined up around my whole room and I just freaked the f*** out," Kim reflected. "I literally got claustrophobic. We were living in a hotel."

It was then that Kim told Andy that she handled the split "the wrong way," and felt she owed Kris an apology.

"I was so nervous to break up with someone, I handled it totally the wrong way," Kim admitted. "I fully broke up with him in the worst way, and I couldn't, I just didn't know how to deal, I learned so much from it." Andy asked, "Do you think you owe him an apology?" Kim answered, "Absolutely, and I tried to, I tried calling him for months."

Kim Made It Clear That Her Marriage To Kris Was Real And Not A Publicity Stunt

After watching the marriage and divorce unfold, the viewing public dismissed the whole thing as nothing more than a publicity stunt. However, Kim made sure to clear this misconception up. According to her, the relationship and marriage was real.

"The show paid us, obviously, a fee to film the show. I took my entire fee and probably Kris' because I wanted a bigger wedding than what they were going to pay for," Kim said during the 2021 reunion special. "So I used all of our production money on the wedding, right. So, if that was fake, I would have saved my money."

This isn't the first time Kim has addressed this particular perception of her marriage to Kris. At the time of her divorce, Kim wrote a message to the public in a blog post on her website. In the message, she cleared up any false narratives people may have had in mind regarding her motives.

"I married for love," she wrote. "I would not have spent so much time on something just for a TV show! I share so much of my life on a reality show, that contemplating whether to even film my wedding was a tough decision to make, and maybe it turned out to not be the smartest decision. I felt like I was on a fast roller coaster and couldn't get off when now I know I probably should have."

"I got caught up with the hoopla," Kim continued, "and the filming of the TV show that when I probably should have ended my relationship, I didn't know how to and didn't want to disappoint a lot of people."

Kris also insisted the marriage was real in an essay he wrote for The Players' Tribune. In the piece, Kris reflected on how his relationship and marriage to Kim affected his career in the NBA.

"Our actual relationship was 100% real," he wrote. "When it was clear that it wasn't working … what can I say? It sucked. It's never easy to go through the embarrassment of something like that — with your friends, with your family… But when it plays out so publicly, in front of the world, it's a whole other level. It was brutal."
