Kristin Davis Had Initially Auditioned For The Role Of Monica On Friends
Kristin Davis was able to forge quite the career, in large part thanks to her contributions on Sex and the City. However, rather easily things could have gone down a different road for the actress. According to her words with EW, she was one of the many actresses to audition for the role of Monica on Friends.
Davis recalls certain aspects of the tryout, including the mass volume of candidates that were up for the prestigious role.
"I think I was about one of like 8,000 young ladies who read for Monica," the actress stated recalling the experience.
Davis would also tell a neat story on how Courteney Cox wanted to go car shopping back when they were at their early stages in Hollywood. Davis stated that Cox had a good feeling about a certain show she was working on... of course, that turned out to be none other than Friends.
Davis still got to appear on the show, and it was everything she had imagined.
Kristin Davis Was Nervous To Work Alongside Matt LeBlanc And Live Audience
Even though she was an established actress at the time of her Friends cameo, it was a sleepless night the day prior to appearing on the sitcom. Davis was entering a different world, not only was it a popular series but it also takes place in front of a live audience - aspects Davis was not accustomed to.
“I remember losing sleep,” she recalled alongside Today. “‘Sex and the City’ was in production, but I was nervous to be the tiny character of Erin, losing sleep, partly because of the live audience, but partly because you’re in this world that has been created that is so alive and so specific and you’re trying to make sure you’re fitting yourself in there properly."
Davis also wanted to ensure that there was chemistry between herself and Matt LeBlanc, "I remember, like, ‘Will I set that joke up OK? Will Matt (LeBlanc) be happy? Will I just go blank?’ Things go through your head when you’re in those situations that are heightened like that. Obviously it was the highest of the high at that point.”
Ultimately, it all worked out for Davis, who was especially blown away by the chemistry of the cast, and how everyone got along as one.
Kristin Davis Praised Lisa Kudrow The Most For Her Work Off-Camera During Friends
Speaking alongside Today, Davis was asked about her favorite memory on the set of Friends. Davis did not hesitate retelling a certain behind the scenes moment, which featured Lisa Kudrow and her dedication to perfect the role of Phoebe.
“I remember watching Lisa Kudrow especially, because she had this very involved storyline that she wanted to work on, and the way that she worked with the writing staff."
"Watching Lisa rework her character’s arc or what was happening in that episode was really something that I hadn’t really seen in that way where someone who obviously knew her own power and knew what was right and knew what was funny."
Davis further stated that there was nobody funnier than Kudrow, "There’s no one funnier than Lisa Kudrow — really went and reworked it in a way that was amazing."
For those interested in rewatching Davis' episode on Friends, it took place during season seven's The One With Ross' Library Book. Hard to believe the episode aired more than two decades ago back in mid-November of 2000. It will be enjoyed for years to come by the new and old generation of Friends fans.
