Kunal Nayyar Commented After Kaley Cuoco Revealed The Significance Of Her "I Love You" Scene With Johnny Galecki
Almost a decade ago, the cast and creators of The Big Bang Theory took part in a chat at The Paley Center for Media. The interview was an entertaining one, filled with neat reveals. Simon Helberg gave some extra details about his space scenes, while Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady also credited Steve Molaro for his contributions on the show.
However, what fans really wanted to hear was the juicy behind the scene details among the main cast. Kaley Cuoco made a major reveal about her "I love you" scene with Johnny Galecki. According to the actress, shooting the scene was extra emotional, and it felt as though nobody else was on-set, aside from herself and Galecki. The scene was also shot in one take.
Fans adored the moment. However, Kunal Nayyar wasn't as impressed. Cuoco says, "I felt like we were really in it." Nayyar interjects, "As opposed to the scenes with all of us."
Of course, Nayyar was just being funny, and he got a great reaction from the live audience. The moment can be found below near the end.
As it turns out, Nayyar had scenes of his own that were difficult to shoot, and that was especially true during the show's final episode.
Kunal Nayyar Also Got Emotional During The Final Episode
During a candid interview alongside Ellen, Kunal Nayyar discussed the details of shooting the final TBBT episode. Nayyar admits he was able to hold together. However, at a certain moment, he got very emotional realizing it was the final moments of his character Raj on the show. Nayyar admitted he cried behind the scenes after his final scene.
“I don’t think there’s any word in any language ever written that could describe what I’m feeling,” he said. “I’m feeling all of it. I’m feeling sad. I’m feeling exhilarated. I’m feeling tired. I’ve cried out, I’ve laughed out, it’s all of it.”
“I had held it together pretty well,” he said. “But then the last scene we were shooting, they added a joke, and I said it and I thought I would get another chance at it because we shoot most takes twice. But no, I got it and they said, ‘All right, moving on.’ And then that was the last words I was going to say as my character.”
Nayyar continues, “As I was walking up to my trailer, with every step the realization that those were the last words I would ever say as Raj began to really sink in,” he said. “I cried. I cried a lot.”
Nayyar also revealed in other interviews that he felt like a giant weight was lifted off his back when it was announced that the show was coming to an end. The actor stated that it wasn't a good or bad feeling, just exactly what he felt. Without a doubt, after 12 seasons of the show, feeling a sense of relief does make a lot of sense.
Kunal Nayyar Appreciated The Way Raj's Character Wrapped Up On TBBT As Single
Raj's ending on TBBT was labeled as controversial, as he ends up staying single, still in search of love. Although his conclusion received a split reaction from the audience, Kunal Nayyar embraced the decision.
"I find it quite poignant that the one character that believed in true love so much was the one who didn't, in the end, find it," he explained. "It's beautiful! It doesn't have to be so formulaic, that's what I loved about the show – it doesn't have to be a certain way, you know?"
"In the world of these characters, they wake up the next morning, and their life continues," he said. "So somewhere, these guys are living and having a great life and their adventures are continuing."
What Nayyar and fans appreciated most was the fact that the show left off letting fans know that everything was going to be okay, and that life was continuing for everyone.
"That’s why it was not some big bang ending you know? Like someone moves, and someone dies, or something like that. It was because we're saying goodbye to the show, but in their lives, they're continuing on."
It turned out to be among the better finales of all time.
