Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills stars Mauricio Umansky and Kyle Richards have been slapped with a tax lien.
News of the tax lien comes amid a stream of unpleasant headlines about Kyle and Mauricio — primarily pertaining to his dalliances outside their troubled marriage.
As we recently reported, Kyle and Mauricio separated in July 2023, but fans hoped the couple would eventually mend their marriage — an outcome which looks increasingly less likely in light of his apparent "stepping out."
What Is A Tax Lien?: Several sources reported a tax lien recorded in Kyle and Mauricio's home state of California.
A lien is a "legal claim" lodged against an individual's personal assets or property, typically in order to satisfy a debt of some sort.
Specifically, a "tax lien" is a lien filed, typically at the federal or state level, when the impacted party is believed to owe a tax debt to the lienholder.
Although some liens are voluntary, tax liens typically aren't.

Mauricio Umansky And Kyle Richards' Tax Lien Is Relatively Tiny
On July 27, the New York Post's Page Six reported the tax lien, noting that it wasn't the first time someone filed a claim against the couple's property.
According to the outlet, Richards' tax lien amounted to $6,542, attached to a property purchased for over $8 million back in 2017:
"An official document obtained by Page Six [on July 27] shows that the state tax lien — issued by California in the amount of $6,542 on [July 26] — has been placed on their marital home in Encino, Calif.
"The Daily Mail, who was first to report the news, said the lien was from 2022 debt. The estranged couple purchased the massive 10,000 square foot home in 2017 for $8.3 million."
Page Six cited the British tabloid Daily Mail as a source for the California state records attesting to the existence of the tax lien.
In their coverage, they also mentioned additional sums allegedly owed by Umansky for unrelated, unpaid taxes:
"While a $6.5k lien may not be a lot for both Kyle and Mauricio given their net worths, The Agency co-founder still [allegedly owes] a total of $31,464.50 in unpaid taxes for the tax years 2022 and 2023."
They broke down the amounts in question, continuing:
"On December 20, 2023, The Agency was hit with three liens in the amounts of $4,673.64, $3,878.19 and $290.15.
"Prior to this, The Agency was hit with four liens on December 14, 2022 in the amounts of $16,777.97, $3,454.41, $2,120.67 and $269.47."
Moreover, the outlet indicated that Mauricio and Kyle were previously "slapped" with a tax lien in the amount of $13,707.47 in April 2022, and that the lien was lifted in July of that year.
RealityBlurb also picked the story up, asserting that the estranged couple "currently owe $31,464.50 in unpaid taxes for 2022 and 2023," and that they have no prenuptial agreement in place.
Mauricio and Kyle's net worths are both estimated at around $100 million, although such calculations are often guesstimates.
Nevertheless, the couple are likely to boast respective net worths in that general vicinity, and any way you look at it, $6,500 or $30,000 is a small potatoes sum for the RHOBH stars.
Mauricio Umansky and Kyle Richards' current tax lien is not the first of its sort, and the frequency with which liens have affected the couple suggests that the issue may be less a lack of funds, and more their ownership of an overabundance of taxable assets.
