Kylie Jenner may have reignited her feud with Kylie Minogue, as the makeup mogul is attempting to trademark her first name, something that’s gotten her into legal trouble with the Australian pop star before.

According to The Sun, court documents reveal that Kylie filed three trademarks for her first name only at the end of July. The first trademark will be applied to media content, like ringtones and video games, while the second one was filed for merchandise, including stickers, calendars, and stationary.

This is hardly the first time Kylie has tried trademarking her name. Over the years, she’s made 16 trademark applications, though she’s only gotten 5 registered. She made her first trademark application in 2015, and the latest earlier this year, though these are the first trademark applications Kylie has submitted since 2019.

Shortly after the Kylie Cosmetics founder filed her first trademark application, singer Kylie Minogue filed a lawsuit against her in 2016, which argued that “confusion” could arise if Jenner trademarked their first name, effectively hurting Minogue’s brand.

Moreover, the musician’s lawsuit pointed out that she’s been selling products using her first name, Kylie, since the ‘90s, and even operates the website domain Kylie.com.

Minogue’s lawsuit was eventually successful after the two parties reached a private settlement. This led Jenner to name and trademark her makeup brand as Kylie Cosmetics in 2017, not simply her first name as she’d seemingly wanted to do. Minogue eventually debuted her own makeup collection, simply called Kylie, in 2019.

Minogue has opened up about her lawsuit against Jenner over the years, saying it was nothing personal against the reality star of the Kardashian-Jenner family. "I've never met Kylie Jenner. I've never met any member of the family — actually, I've met Kendall just in passing at a fashion event — but I honestly don't know them," Minogue told Rolling Stone in 2018.

"It's awkward, because fans get so loyal and vocal, and we love that!” she continued. “But it was nothing personal at all, I'm at pains to say."

Minogue opened up about the legal case again in 2022 during an appearance on Watch What Happens with Andy Cohen, where she again emphasized the lawsuit wasn’t personal. "I've spent a lifetime protecting my brand and building my brand, so it was just something that had to be done," Kylie Minogue said. "But let me also say… we came to an agreement.”

When asked by host Andy Cohen if she negotiated with Kris Jenner directly, the singer laughed it off, and said shed “love to meet” the famous family in the future.

So far, Minogue hasn’t addressed Jenner’s latest attempt to trademark her first name. But it’s clear that if Minogue feels it’s hurting her brand, she won’t be afraid to take action.
