Lady Gaga is set to play Harley Quinn. Don't be sad; look at how many times DC Comics Batman character has been shifted from actor to actor. Marvel's Spider-Man is another one. We all have our favorites, but the fact is that these characters have such a strong following and have been built with such recognition that they are truly worshiped and adored for their costumes, not the actor who portrays them.
Speaking of costumes, the new Harley Quinn look has been amplified a bit with Gaga in the role. Lady Gaga is known for her style selection; when she first came to the Hollywood scene, we eagerly anticipated what she would wear to each event. It was so exciting! Will it be a meat dress, or will she show up inside an egg and hatch out of it? Nobody knew, but we ate up every minute of it.
Lady Gaga has a truly bizarre fashion sense, but it works for her. Watching her in American Horror Story was a gift. Those outfits brought out not only her character, but they were Lady Gaga. You didn't spend time trying to figure it out; you just admired it. That is the key to great costuming. If you can mesh a character and their wardrobe together so one doesn't take away from the other, you have truly mastered it.
When Did The Grunge Look Become Popular?
Two things—ok, three things come to mind when grunge glam is mentioned.
- Kurt Cobain
- Nirvana
- Seattle
Although the term "grunge fashion" dates back to 1972, it wasn't until the 1990s that grunge fashion gained widespread media recognition. Society moved away from long-haired metal bands and found alternative rock. Don't be fooled; punk rock is not the same. Green Day is punk rock; Nirvana was grunge.
Punk rockers are seen in leather jackets, most likely with patches. They have pants torn at the knees-to make shorts. Tall black combat boots, and wallet chains. If it's not black, they aren't wearing it kind of look.
On the other hand, grunge musicians wore casual clothing everywhere they went. Kurt Cobain, a legend in his own time, was the lead singer and guitarist for the band Nirvana. During performances, he would usually only wear a big striped sweater, some torn jeans, and a pair of Converse sneakers, with his messy blonde hair tucked behind his ears.
Due to the rise of grunge, this understated design from the Pacific Northwest has become very well known.
What Is Grunge Glam?
Sometimes also referred to as "glam grunge," this aesthetic came to be in the '90s when females took on the grunge look. They made it look glamorous with heavy make-up and at least one piece of chic attire added to their outfit. You wanted to be grunge so bad; to be so effortlessly glamorous. The look personifies being a beautiful mess.
The grunge look was all about rebellion and anti-fashion, but the glam grunge aesthetic added a touch of femininity to it. It was a way for women to express themselves and their individuality while still embracing grunge culture.
The makeup is key to this iconic look. It has also made a huge comeback recently. Imagine black nail polish, dark matte lipstick, lighter foundation colors, extremely smokey and smudged eyes, untidy, unruly hair, and a lot of attitude. Lady Gaga As Harley Quinn
Anyone who has attended a Halloween party since the release of Suicide Squad knows that Margot Robbie's flashy, girly interpretation of Harley Quinn's style has many fans, but it appears that Lady Gaga will take a different approach. Gaga portrayed Quinn in a slightly more worn-out and worn-out manner.
Arianne Phillips, a renowned costume designer, created Lady Gaga's outfit. As Harley, she is wearing a corset top, a diamond-print blouse, a leather miniskirt, stockings, and a red satin blazer with tulle sleeves.
Given Lady Gaga's past at openings and award shows, it is going to be an absolute treat to see what rolls out on the red carpet when then is released in October 2024.
