9 Sarah Tanno Started Working As A Makeup Artist In The 2000s
In a 2020 interview with InStyle magazine, Tanno revealed that she started pursuing her makeup career in the 2000s and that it took quite some time to reach the level of success she's enjoying now. She worked several different jobs before she finally had her big break.
“People think you just get lucky and find that one person ... [laughs] I didn’t make money for the first 10 years of my career. I’ve had to move home and start over again. I’ve been a waitress, bartender, club promoter — I’ve done it all," said Gaga's makeup artist.
8 She Joined Lady Gaga's Team In 2009
When Sarah Tanno saw Gaga's famous 2009 MTV VMAs performance, she knew she wanted to work with Gaga. "The next day I told my friends I would die to work with her," recalls Tanno for InSytyle Magazine. And not too long after, Gaga's managers messaged Tanno on Facebook, offering her a meeting with Gaga.
7 She Says Gaga Is Her Main Muse
Every artist has their muse, and so does Sarah Tanno. When she was asked who's the person who gives her creative inspiration in a Grazia magazine interview, Tanno said: "Lady Gaga has been my muse for years. I look up to her as a person, a friend, a creative partner and as the incredible artist she is."
6 Tanno Has Worked With Other Celebs
Before she met Lady Gaga, Sarah Tanno was mostly known for her collaborations with art photographer Chadwick Tyler. In addition to Tyler, Sarah Tanno also collaborated with the former Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie on a few looks. Tanno met Fergie through a music manager after moving to Los Angeles. Some of her other famous clients were Paris Hilton, Katy Perry, and Kelis.
5 She Launched Her Own Beauty Organization Line
Earlier this year, Sarah Tanno took it to Instagram to announce that she's launching a beauty organization line in partnership with home organization company iDesign.
"I’m SO excited to announce tomorrow is launch day for my first ever beauty organization line in collaboration with @idlivesimply! Creating this line has been a dream of mine and it was extremely important to me that it be sustainable & recyclable," said Tanno on Instagram.
4 Sarah Tanno Was the Global Artistry Ambassador for Marc Jacobs Beauty
In 2017 beauty brand Marc Jacobs Beauty announced that Sarah Tanno is their new Global Artistry Ambassador.
"Marc Jacobs found me through my work on American Horror Story because he loved the look of the Countess so much. He was enamoured with her makeup and had to find out who did it, and that’s how we met! I was already a huge fan of the brand—I had been using its product forever—so it was a very natural progression," said Tanno in an interview with S Magazine, when she was asked why she decided to team up with Marc Jacobs.
3 She Has Collaborated With Gaga On Haus Labs Cosmetics Brand
In September 2019 Lady Gaga announced that she's launching her own cosmetics brand Haus Labs, together with her friend and makeup artist Sarah Tanno, who will serve as the brand's Global Artistry Director. Haus Labs, which is sold exclusively on Amazon, was met with rave reviews from Little Monsters, influences, and beauty experts.
2 Tanno Won An Emmy Award For Her Work On 'American Horror Story'
If you're a Gaga fan, then you already know that she starred as The Countess in the fifth season of the anthology horror series American Horror Story. But what many people don't know is that Sarah Tanno did Gaga's makeup for the show. And not only that, but in 2016 she also managed to snatch an Emmy award in the "Outstanding Makeup For A Limited Series Or Movie (Non-Prosthetic)" category.
1 She Got Married To Lady Gaga's Guitarist, Tim Stewart
In November 2019, after years of dating, Sarah Tanno married Tim Stewart, who is one of Gaga's guitarists. The two met back in 2012 on Gaga's concert tour The Born This Way Ball, where they worked together. The wedding took place at the Cabo Azul Resort in Mexico and of course, Gaga was one of the bridesmaids.
