Liam Neeson is well-established as one of the greatest action stars of our time. At the age of 69, the actor has revealed that he is surprised that he is still being cast and offered roles. Many Twitter users were also surprised, but not because of the actor's age.
Neeson is known for his roles in the popular Taken franchise and also for several other action-packed films, including The Commuter and Cold Pursuit. On June 25th, his latest film, The Ice Road, launched on Netflix. Twitter users have had mixed reactions to the film. However, it's not just the new film that has Liam Neeson trending on Twitter either.
Neeson was recently interviewed by Entertainment Weekly, and revealed several interesting facts. One was that he, too, is surprised that he's still acting:
"I just turned 69 years of age, and the conversations I have with my agent now are, "Liam, have you read this script? It's an action script," and I say, "Chris, let me ask you this, they do know what age I am, right?" "Yes, they do." "Okay, that's all I want to know, thank you."
Many Twitter users responded by praising the star and the films he has acted in.
However, some Twitter users seemed to agree with the sentiment.
Some users on Twitter were also surprised that he is still being offered roles after he made a shockingly racist admission during an interview in 2019.
He told The Independent that, after someone close to him had been raped by a black man, he walked up and down the street looking for a black man to kill. "I did it for maybe a week hoping some ‘black bastard’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could kill him."
It is worth noting that Neeson revealed this in an article specifically centered around past behavior of his that he himself deemed "awful," but some users still couldn't get past the admission.
Neeson also revealed in an interview on The Late Late Show With James Corden that he turned down the role of James Bond because his now deceased wife, Natasha Richardson, gave him an ultimatum. She told him that she would not marry him if he ever took on the role of Bond.
That doesn't seem to have hurt his career, though - in fact, it looks like it's possible that nothing can.
