Despite its success, filming The Office wasn't always easy. In fact, The Dinner Party episode itself was almost impossible to shoot, given the tight space and hilarious lines that were featured in the episode. We also saw the opposite take place, as John Krasinski and Steve Carell had to go through 17-takes, in order to properly shoot Michael's goodbye from the show. The Office also featured several background players, including Lindsey Broad who played the role of Cathy. We'll take a look back at her time on the show and what it was like working with the cast. We're also going to reveal what life was like for Cathy with the fans, and given a tweet of hers, it wasn't the best relationship...
John Krasinski Turned Down A Certain Scene With Lindsey Broad On The Office
Throughout his time as Jim on The Office, rarely did John Krasinski put his foot down, in relation to a certain scene or storyline. However, in one instance, he felt the need to do so, especially for the integrity of The Office fans.
During a certain scene, Jim was supposed to kiss Cathy, a plotline that Krasinski clearly wasn't a fan of.
"That's the only time I remember putting my foot down. I remember saying things that I never thought I'd say before, like, I'm not going to shoot it.
He continues, "My feeling is there is a threshold with which you can push our audience. They are so dedicated. We have shown such great respect to them. But there's a moment where if you push them too far, they'll never come back. And I think that if you show Jim cheating, they'll never come back."
Creator Greg Daniels finally decided to cut the scene, however, he did consider keeping it in, wanting to cause some doubt to fans that the series wouldn't end on the best of terms.
"He needed to worry [the audience] that maybe I was going to give them a bad ending so they were happy when they got a good ending."
Lindsey Broad Had A Great Time Shooting The Office, Despite The Lengthy Days
Credit to Lindsey Broad for taking on the role of Cathy, one that wasn't a fan favorite given that she was getting in the way of Jim and Pam's romance. However, when it came to shooting the actual series, Broad admitted the cast and crew could not have been nicer.
"I was a huge fan of the show and it was very very surreal to be on that set. Everyone was very kind and smart and funny and I am very happy to have been a small part of something so iconic," the actress told Tiny Beans.
However, the actress did admit that the days were at times very long, especially considering she was typically the first one in the makeup chair.
"I was the newest person, which meant I was the first person in the makeup trailer every morning, and my “desk” was in the background of the “talking heads,” which meant I had to stay while they taped those at the end of the day. So, long days! Glad I did it before I had little ones."
Her experience on-set was a good one, however, outside the show, Broad received lots of backlash from the fans.
Fans Weren't So Kind To Lindsey Broad Following Her Role On The Office As Cathy
Lindsey Broad had a good relationship with the cast, but the opposite held true with the fans. According to Broad, fans were very harsh, especially when it came to her personal life. The Office star recalled a particular circumstance, following the passing of her dog.
She tweeted, "If anyone is wondering what it was like to be on The Office, the best comedy of this century: I just posted something on Instagram about how my dog was murdered and a bunch of people were like “**** you, Cathy, she deserved it!” So. There ya go!"
These days, Broad's career hasn't suffered, as the actress is working on a couple of series, including Ghosts, In the Dark and Julia. She's also a proud mother as well.
