“It makes a lot of sense,” Richie said on August 5. “It’s not like we’re getting a stranger. And the fact that she’s got this epic journey, coming straight from American Idol, makes it even better.”

Lionel didn’t hold back on his admiration for Carrie. “What a great judge. We won’t need to explain things anymore with her. We get it as artists, but she’s actually been through the Idol experience herself,” he added.
