Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are the ultimate Hollywood couple with more than 14 years of marriage under their wings. The duo has a fairytale relationship that started with meeting at a gala and tying the knot in less than a year. Although it seems the pair rushed to exchange their vows, they have defied the odds and seem to be still going strong.
However, their love became even more beautiful when they welcomed their two daughters — Sunday Rose on July 7, 2008, and Faith Margaret on December 28, 2010. The lovebirds have a beautiful family but are keen on protecting their kids' privacy. Nicole and Keith are strict about sharing their daughters' pictures or putting them in the public eye. However, we have been able to dig up some fascinating facts about their first child to prove just how awesome she is.
10 The Inspiration Behind Her Name
Celebrities are known for giving their kids unique and sometimes weird names. And while Sunday Rose borders somewhere in the middle, Keith and Nicole put quite a lot of thought into coming up with the moniker. According to Nicole's late father Antony Kidman, Sunday's first name was inspired by a famous patron of art in Australia, Sunday Reed. Before announcing Sunday's pregnancy, it was rumored that the duo visited a Sidney Nolan art exhibit in Sydney. Nolan and Reed had a high-profile affair even though she was married and she was known for being the artist's muse. Nicole and Keith were reportedly touched by a quote in the exhibit and decided to name their daughter after her. As for her middle name Rose, it was a tribute to Keith's late grandmother.
9 She Is A Miracle Baby
Sunday Rose holds a special place in her parents' life. Before welcoming her, Nicole endured infertility struggles. During her first marriage to Tom Cruise, she suffered a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy, making her and Cruise settle for adoption. Unfortunately, when she got remarried to Keith, she continued to have fertility troubles until a miracle happened while she was filming the 2007 film, Australia. She has since referred to the 12-year-old as her miracle baby.
8 She Caught Her Mother's Acting Bug
It is not unlikely for celebrity children to follow in the footsteps of their parents. At least, some of the big names we have in the entertainment industries — Michael Douglas, Angelina Jolie, Kate Hudson — all took after their parents. While it's not sure that Sunday wants to become an A-list actor, just like her mother, she seems to be right on track. She and her younger sister Faith Margaret featured in their mom's series Big Little Lies. Apart from her cameo in the HBO show, Sunday's acting credits include Angry Birds 2 and The Undoing.
7 A Rising Photographer
While Sunday already knows her chops when it comes to acting, she has plenty of options and can decide not to follow her mother's path. During Father's Day in 2019, Keith revealed to his world that his baby has a talent as a photographer. He uploaded a playful photo of him jumping mid-air in their home, and although the image wasn't crisp, she was able to catch her dad in the middle of a movement without it being so blurry!
6 She Isn't Interested In Her Dad's Career
For Sunday, she has the best of both worlds, thanks to her super talented parents. Her mother is one of the leading actresses in Hollywood, and her dad is one of the most acclaimed country musicians. However, like most kids, Sunday leans more towards one parent than the other. The feisty pre-teen is not a fan of her father's career and doesn't hesitate to let him know. During an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, the One Too Many crooner confessed that his daughter was "not really interested" in his music. He recalled rehearsing one night and asking Sunday to join him in the studio, but she blatantly refused.
5 She Makes Rare Appearances At Events
Keith and Nicole are intense when it comes to keeping their kids private. They sometimes even go as far as shielding their faces in social media posts. However, the Moulin Rogue actress loosens up and blesses fans with her kids' gorgeous faces from time to time. Such was the case at the 2018 premiere of Aquaman. Sunday and Faith made their debut appearance, and we loved every part of it. In another surprising twist, the girls made a surprise virtual appearance for the 2021 Golden Globes in lovely white dresses, and it was indeed a delight.
4 Her Parents Are Strict With Technology
Given how dangerous the internet can be for kids, Keith and Nicole take extra caution when it comes to keeping their daughters safe. Although she is 12, Sunday doesn't have a mobile phone of her own and isn't allowed to be on Instagram. While that might seem super strict, Kidman has a genuine reason for her parenting policy. She once explained during an interview:
Because I'm not very techie myself so it's very hard for me to monitor it and stay on it and not have them—I won't let them be on Instagram. I won't let them — you know, and I have a 12-year-old right now who's chomping at the bit wanting to like get into all that, and I'm like, 'No, no no.'"
3 A Heartwarming Nickname
Sunday has a unique name, but she has a special moniker given to her by her father. Given that the father-daughter bears a striking resemblance to one another, it is not surprising that he has a sweet pet name for her. The singer revealed the heartwarming moniker while celebrating Sunday's 8th birthday in July 2016. The doting father wrote, "8 years ago- "a little ray of sunshine in the shape of a girl. Happy 8th birthday, Sunny!!!! We love you. mum and dad." Sunny sure does have a nice ring to it.
2 She Was Scared By Her Mom's Look In Destroyer
More often than not, actors have to undergo drastic transformations for the sake of a role. It sometimes involves changing their bodies, staying in character outside the set, or donning costumes that make them look unrecognizable. For Nicole's role in the 2018 movie, Destroyer, she had to undergo extensive hair and makeup changes so much that it scared her kids. She recalled in an interview:
"They were a bit scared. They found it scary, yeah. [My character is]... angry, and she's defensive, and she's on a mission, and she has a lot of rage…."
1 The Pandemic Was Hard For Her
2020 was a tough year thanks to COVID-19, but it was particularly challenging for the 12-year-old who experienced a social hiatus. Nicole revealed in an interview that her 12-year-old was working through her emotions as she wasn't to have easy access to her friends. To make things worse, the young girl couldn't be with her mom on set — something she found great joy in — due to COVID-19.
