In a recent interview with E! News, Alex explained his reasons for ending his relationship with Madison, and why he doesn't regret his decision despite the backlash he got from viewers who were rooting for the reality TV couple.

"We were just on different pages," Alex revealed.

Apparently, their dates weren't going very well, and he knew they didn't have a future together.

"We realized that a couple times throughout the pod dates, that we just have different styles of communication and we just realized that we were not super compatible. We just decided to go our separate ways."

The pods are officially open in the Twin Cities.

He also talked asked fans to be more understanding. While they might get emotionally invested in their romantic lives, he and Madison are real people, and they can't base life-changing decisions on what would make good television.

"It's just overall really challenging when you're in the situation to navigate all the different people and the dates," he shared.

"I know it's easy to judge when you're watching it on Netflix, but it's really difficult. You have all these people that you really connect with, and then you have to narrow it down to one, and you have to be careful about what you say, and there's so many things to consider."

Believe it or not, Alex was almost as surprised by his decision as Madison and the fans were. While he admittedly had been feeling doubtful about their relationship, when he went on his final date with her, he was still considering proposing, he told TODAY.

"I went into that final date truly 50/50, not knowing if I was going to propose or end things."

While of course, Madison was way more blindsided than Alex was, he still remembers the moment he made the decision as a surprising moment.

"It was a really big moment when all that went down. At that point, I still had hope that I was going to propose in the next couple hours. It really shook both of us, I think, when we had that disagreement. It was definitely a tough moment for me.

Alex also went on to explain that the way Madison dealt with conflict was what made him realize they weren't a good fit and they shouldn't get married.

"I think she has different ways of dealing with conflict than I do, and again, that’s totally fine. There’s nothing right or wrong with either way, but I think we just realized that we are both on very different pages and that communication wasn’t going to be easy."

"There just wasn’t enough time at that point to figure out if that communication gap was going to be an issue or if we could overcome it or not. And I think it was just too much in the moment for us to move forward."

It's disappointing, of course, that it didn't work out for them, but in the end, it looks like they truly weren't compatible, and it's likely that, had they gotten married, it would have ended in disaster.
