Love Is Blind is one of Netflix's most popular reality TV series. It's now on Season 7 of the original, US version, and it also has more than ten international spin-offs, including series in Argentina, in Germany, and in the UK.
The popular series, however, has come under major scrutiny before. One of its many scandals involves a major lawsuit led by a Season 2 contestant worth a million dollars.
Jeremy Hartwell From Season 2 Sued The Show
The person behind the initial lawsuit is Jeremy Hartwell, a contestant from Season 2 of the show, which was filmed in Chicago. Though Jeremy wasn't prominently featured in the episodes (and did not walk away from the pods with a fiancée), he did come away with a horrible filming experience, which led him to file a lawsuit against Netflix.

The reality TV star shared with fans about her loss.
Jeremy explained to Us Weekly that those behind the production held them in "inhumane working conditions" during the process of filming. His attorney spoke of the poor conditions in more detail:
They intentionally underpaid the cast members, deprived them of food, water and sleep, plied them with booze and cut off their access to personal contacts and most of the outside world. This made cast members hungry for social connections and altered their emotions and decision-making.
The lawsuit was a "proposed class action on behalf of all participants [of the show]," meaning those other than Jeremy could receive money from the settlement.

Haseeb Hussain Only Got $4k From The Settlement
It appears that Netflix has finally settled the lawsuit with Jeremy, and, since then, other former Love Is Blind cast members have started to receive checks for the settlement. Fellow Season 2 cast member Haseeb Hussain (who also was not prominently featured in the episodes) shared on his personal TikTok page that he'd gotten money from the settlement.
The catch? While the payout was apparently more than a million dollars, his cut was only worth four thousand dollars. Hussein explained his surprise to his followers in the video:
So, the producers of Love Is Blind just settled their class action lawsuit and I just for the notice in the mail. They are paying a total of $1.4 million to the class representative, which is [Jeremy], 35 percent to the attorneys, which is just half a million dollars, which is crazy because all I’m getting is $4,000, which is the rest of everyone else from Love Is Blind Seasons 2, 3, 4 and 5 and Ultimatum [seasons] 1 and 2.
Split between so many former contestants, the payout wasn't what Hussein was expecting.

The newlyweds smiled big for the cameras.
Haseeb did go on to say that, if he himself wanted to fight Netflix for more money, that'd mean he'd have to sue those behind the production all on his own, going after them as an individual. It would also mean he'd have to forgo the settlement money from Jeremy's case.
Haseeb, who is a lawyer himself, explained to fans that it might not be worth the effort to go through all the steps that Jeremy had. "That would mean a lot more work that I would have to do, so might just be worth taking [the check]," he declared. Though Haseeb hasn't officially said whether he'd decided to take the money, odds are he went with his gut instinct from the video and cashed the check from Netflix.
Though this comes as the latest scandal from the Netflix reality series, possibly it won't be the last. Each season there seems to be new drama, particularly around cast members who don't seem to be well vetted. Only time will tell what the next Love Is Blind scandal will be.
