Backlash stemming from the high-stakes Real Housewives Of New Jersey Season 14 finale dinner drama continues, and Teresa Guidice's husband, Luis Ruelas, issued an Instagram apology for a particularly horrifying series of remarks about Margaret Josephs' son.
RHONJ's Season 14 finale was preceded by both tensions and talk of a reboot, heralding a finale that promised to be the pinnacle of Real Housewives dramatics — and there's no question the Jersey girls delivered.
Several tense moments from the big RHONJ "sit down" episode proved to be a sticking point for fans, but Luis' stated on-camera wish that Margaret Josephs' son would "suffer" was an immediate flashpoint of fan anger.
As we previously reported, Louie's comments about Margaret Josephs' son (and Margaret herself) occurred before the RHONJ cast went out for a dinner date, later dubbed "the Last Supper."
Midway through the episode, which was titled "When All Is Said And Done," Teresa and Luis were shown discussing both dinner and simmering tensions with other RHONJ stars.
Louie engaged in a bit of mildly insulting banter aimed at his wife (Teresa), retorting "I know you're not" when she admitted to not pre-planning confrontations and not being a "strategic person."
In the scene, Luis was interrogating Teresa about what she planned to say to Margaret, and after Teresa said she had no prepared remarks, Ruelas cut in to attack Margaret and her son, saying:
"Tell her to stay away from our family. And you know what? I hope Margaret and her family suffer.
"You know, I hope her f*****g son suffers the way I suffer, the way other people in our family have suffered, dealing with a woman like that."
Ruelas' excerpted comments amplified the ire RHONJ fans felt towards him, and on a recent Bravo puff piece video about Luis and Teresa's marriage, fans replied:
"His red face IS the red flag."
"He's given crook vibes since day 1. Crook handler."
"He is such a creep… like he gives bad vibes[.]"
"There's something about this guy that's creepy AF."
Louie was not a fan favorite to begin with, but his outburst involving Margaret's son really bothered viewers.
Louie Ruelas' Instagram Apology
On August 6, Luis published a text-based statement via Instagram Stories, one that expired after 24 hours.
However, screenshots of the post were quickly captured, preserving its text:
Although the post was visual, it depicted the text of Louie's apology.
In it, he began by saying the finale was "tough" for him to watch, before explaining why he specifically attacked Margaret Josephs' son.
He claims it was because he'd been accused of "calling Margaret's son at his work" — a strange accusation to begin with, and one that didn't seem to warrant Luis' level of directed rage:
"The finale was very tough for me to watch and I wanted to address it with you all. After watching the finale, I was disappointed in my actions in bringing up Margaret Josephs' son.
"The reason he was even brought up was because I have been dealing with being falsely accused of calling Margaret’s son at his work which is simply not true.
"For the last year Margaret kept putting this narrative out there that I called her son at work and I have to deal with it knowing I am being lied on."
In the next paragraph, Ruelas said he "deeply" regretted his statements, and wished to apologize:
"Still, I know better not to bring someone’s child up and it is something I deeply regret so I do want to apologize and acknowledge that I was wrong.
"There’s been a lot of toxicity on the show … Two wrongs don’t make a right and I deeply regret saying what I said."
Luis' apology was not well received by RHONJ fans, most of whom opined that Ruelas was primarily "sorry" that the comments reflected so poorly on him, that he appeared to expect viewers to side with him, and that he was "delulu to the max."
