Primarily known for his music career, Machine Gun Kelly has been acting in several projects since 2014, including in unanimously panned thriller Midnight in the Switchgrass.

It is common knowledge that MGK (real name Colson Baker) and his fiancée, actress Megan Fox, met on the set of the 2021 film directed by Randall Emmett and also starring Bruce Willis and Emile Hirsch.

While the rapper's starring roles have been contributing to inflate his $25 million net worth, the salary for Midnight in the Switchgrass wasn't remotely what attracted him to the role of Calvin.

Machine Gun Kelly Only Wanted To Act Opposite Megan Fox

Inspired by true events, the film stars Fox as FBI agent Rebecca Lombardo and Willis as her partner Karl Helter working to bust a sex trafficking ring, crossing paths with a brutal serial killer.

Although it hasn't been confirmed how much Machine Gun Kelly made for his role in Midnight in the Switchgrass, the film's budget was estimated to be around $15 million. Based on this, and considering that MGK has made about $4 million from his roles in films and TV shows so far, it'd be fair to assume he was paid between $250,000 and $750,000 for his minor role, while Fox, Hirsch and Willis, whose star power is undoubtedly bigger, earned a bigger cut.

Whatever the case, MGK wasn't very interested in the pay nor in the role of pimp Calvin, but had ulterior motives to say yes to Emmett's film.

As he confessed to Drew Barrymore on an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show aired last December, the musician only wanted to meet Megan Fox.

"Ironically the only reason I took the movie was because they were like, 'Your scene is with Megan Fox,' and I was like, 'I'll take the movie,'" MGK said (around the 4:25 mark in the video below).

Machine Gun Kelly Patiently Waited For Megan Fox To Invite Him To Lunch

Midnight in the Switchgrass originally started production in Puerto Rico in February 2020, but filming was soon halted to comply with the Covid-19 safety measures. It then resumed in June of the same year, and the movie was released in July.

While on set, MGK was determined to get to know Fox better.

"I stayed outside the trailer, and my gut is always right, and I'm grateful for it because for some reason I knew she would invite me for lunch," he told Barrymore.

"Then, all of a sudden, someone came over and was like, 'Megan wants to know if you want to have lunch in her trailer.' And I was like, 'Oh my god, I'm so surprised. Yeah, absolutely,'" he continued.

"I went in there, and she said, 'How do you feel?' And I said, 'I'm lost,'" he continued. "She said, 'Let's find you.' And I was like … it killed me. She was Cupid."

In a chat on The Howard Stern Show, MGK revealed he'd wait outside Fox's trailer "to catch one glimpse of eye contact" with her if he could, adding: "She would have to get out of her car. There were like, five steps between the car and the trailer. And I would just sit there and hope."

What's With Machine Gun Kelly And Megan Fox Shading Midnight In The Switchgrass?

Despite having to thank the movie for their engagement, it seems that MGK and Fox aren't particularly fond of Midnight in the Switchgrass.

When the thriller came out in July last year, MGK appeared to shade it in a tweet, writing: "if i don't talk or tweet about a movie i'm barely in it's because it's [trash emoji]," prompting fans to immediately think it was referring to Midnight in the Switchgrass.

Suspicions that something was going on were further fueled by MGK, Fox and Willis' decision to skip the LA premiere. Fox released a statement through her reps, explaining her decision was motivated by a surge of Covid-19 cases in the LA area.

However, Emmett's fiancée, model Lala Kent, was less than impressed with Fox's absence. She seemingly shaded the Jennifer's Body star when she posted a since-deleted picture on Instagram, standing in front of Fox on the movie poster, and included the caption "So excited for this" to cover the actress' name.

Fox didn't buy the drama, telling USA Today she hadn't seen it as she's not online much and adding: "I really like Lala, so I can't imagine she would be trying to do anything negative like that. She's a lovely person."

Kent also denied the shade being intentional in a statement to USA Today: "My mother took the picture of a special moment in my fiancé's life. In no way was it meant to shade anyone. I like Megan; she has been nothing but kind to me. I'm grateful she supported Randall in his directorial debut. I'm very proud of them both."
