It’s been over a month since Madonna was hospitalized for an infection, delaying her upcoming world tour. Though she’s seen been released, the singer hasn’t given any updates on new tour dates, and reports say the 64-year-old is still struggling to get her health back on track.
Madonna Was Bedridden After Being Found Unresponsive
On June 28, Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary wrote via Instagram that she’d been hospitalized a few days prior and would have to put her Celebration tour on hold. “On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU,” he wrote.
“Her health is improving. However, she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected,” the manager continued. “At this time, we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”
Soon after, it was reported that the pop icon had been “found unresponsive” and transported to a hospital in New York, where she had to be “intubated for at least one night.” On June 29, a report from TMZ said that Madonna was confined to her bed due to the infection. It was also alleged she was “vomiting uncontrollably” and the infection was “wreaking havoc” on her.
Another report from TMZ said that singer had a “low grade fever” for a month before she was hospitalized. Madonna apparently was trying to push through her symptom to rehearse in preparation for her big tour.
Madonna Says She’s Rescheduling The Tour, But No Dates Are Announced
Madonna was discharged from the hospital within a week of being admitted, and two weeks after her initial hospitalization, she gave a direct update to fans about her health.
“I’m on the road to recovery and incredibly grateful for all the blessings in my life,” she wrote last month. “My first thought when I woke up in the hospital was my children. My second thought was that I did not want to disappoint anyone who bought tickets for my tour.”
“I also didn’t want to let down the people who worked tirelessly with me over the last few months to create my show. I hate to disappoint anyone,” Madonna continued.
She’s posted various updates since then, mostly spending time with her family and at home, while she presumably rests. Most recently, Madonna made a statement to her Instagram promising that her concert dates will be rescheduled soon. However, she’s still to follow up with any official dates.
“I’m happy to report that the re-routed tour schedule will be coming in the next few days! See you soon for a well-deserved Celebration!” she wrote.
While it seems like Madonna is on the mend, ticket holders are still in the dark as to when the performance dates will be rescheduled and/or if a refund will be issued. It’s already been speculated that Madonna’s Celebration tour will be her final one, so it’s certainly one of the most in-demand concerts of the year.
