Summary

  • Michael Jordan did not approve of his son dating Larsa Pippen due to their age difference and his strained relationship with Scottie Pippen.
  • Marcus Jordan had hoped his father would come around and serve as his best man, but the couple has since broken up.
  • Despite the breakup, there is a possibility that Jordan and Pippen may reconcile and get back together, though.

A little more than a year ago, Marcus Jordan and Larsa Pippen confirmed their relationship after months of rumors. Legendary basketball player Michael Jordan did not approve of his 33-year-old son dating the 49-year-old wife of his former teammate, Scottie Pippen.

Marcus Jordan had said in interviews that he hoped his father would come around, approve of his relationship, and serve as his best man if he and Larsa were to get married. The former Chicago Bull doesn't have to worry about that now that his son and Pippen have broken up (at least for now).

According to friends, the breakup happened this weekend. At one point, the two unfollowed each other on Instagram and scrubbed the other one off of their pages. The pair then confirmed they had broken up to People Magazine.

There could be several reasons why Michael Jordan may not have been cool with his son dating Pippen, who appears on The Real Housewives of Miami. First, there was a 16-year age gap between the couple. When Larsa Pippen married Scottie Pippen in 1997, Marcus Jordan was only seven years old.

There was also the issue of the strained relationship between Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Despite their incredible success as teammates, things between them have been frosty for years. In the documentary, The Last Dance, Jordan noted that he felt Pippen had been "selfish" in how he dealt with the treatment of an ankle injury.

While Michael Jordan might be temporarily pleased about the breakup, things might not necessarily stay that way. According to a source who spoke with People:

They were just with friends last Thursday or Friday and no one saw any issues and they were happy. They’ll probably get back together.
