Mariah Carey is her own knight and shining armor when it comes to Hollywood bullies. And she does it in such a queen-like way as well. For instance, she once threw a "diplomatic" shade at Madonna who criticized her music and popularity.

The Hero hitmaker also interrupted a radio show to call out the "mean" Sandra Bernhard for making racist jokes about her. Speaking of radio, Carey always clapped back at DJs who asked inappropriate questions about her physique.

One time, she told Wendy Williams to "stop the triple Ds right now" after the host — who was open about getting breast implants — accused the Songbird Supreme of undergoing the same procedure. So when Carey went on Howard Stern's show in 1998, even the latter's longtime co-host, Robin Quivers, got called out for egging on the "lewd" direction of the interview.

Mariah Carey Called Out Robin Quivers For Backing Howard Stern's "Lewd" Comments

In 1998, some footage of Stern's interviews was shown on the E! Network. One of the most popular was Carey's first and only appearance on The Howard Stern Show. Fans can't blame her — she thought the host was "lewd" to her at the very beginning. After saying, "Let me look at you" multiple times, Stern asked his guest, "Why didn't you flash me on stage?" Quivers laughed along.

Carey successfully changed the topic for a little bit until she cautioned the hosts: "I'm not saying that I'm shy, but I'm not a freak... You have had some freaky people on the show. Let's be real." Stern quickly responded, saying, "Believe me, you're freaky, you just don't tell us... I'd like to get freaky with you." He then told Carey to stick her gum to a staffer whom they dared to "chew it" after.

Later in the interview, Stern "complimented" the Vision of Love performer for "showing off her body" and "dressing like a stripper," to which Quivers agreed. Carey kept dismissing the comments, but the latter provoked her when she said: "Now, she doesn't want to party. All of a sudden, we heard that Mariah Carey wanted to party. Now, she doesn't want to party."

The songstress clapped back. "Who said that? Robin, you know, you chime in," she said. "You just act like the innocent one, but you chime in." Quivers went on to tell Stern about that they'd read about "party girl" Carey in the papers. "Why do you believe what you read?" the Glitter star asked. Stern later made a fake apology to his guest, claiming, "I'm trying to kiss your a**."

Mariah Carey had just divorced Tommy Mottola — who inspired All I Want For Christmas Is You — at the time of her interview with Howard Stern.

Throughout Stern's obsessive commentary on Carey's physique, the latter kept bringing up the fact that he and Quivers were "clowning" and "dissing" her for "not singing." Less than a minute in the hot seat, the Obsessed performer said, "Don't accuse me of not singing again, ever," after singing the second verse of My All, which she sang live on the show prior to the interview.

The host avoided the confrontation by telling Carey that he thought she was looking at him during her performance (which she said she was). But the guest wasn't there to bury the beef. "You guys were clowning me first. You were dissing me," she stated.

Stern defended himself poorly by explaining: "I said you want to be naked on stage. You know you do. You got such a hot d--n body that you want to be nude."

"Howard, why?" Carey said while smiling uncomfortably. In support of Stern's perverted comments, Quivers added, "Look at how you dress," to which the singer replied: "Baby, what are you talking about? You got some shiny stuff accentuating there (points to chest area). You're much more well-endowed than I am. I mean, let's be realistic."

The interview was a cycle of Stern and Quivers seemingly getting Carey to admit that she was some kind of exhibitionist. But at that time, the five-time Grammy winner was already breaking records in music. Just look at her top five best-selling albums of all time (all from before that interview):

Early in the interview, Carey admitted that she was "afraid" of Stern. "Howard, I was afraid," she said of seeing the host's name on the front row of an event the night before. "When I went to the rehearsal, I saw 'Howard Stern' in the front row, I was like, 'Why? Is this a plant? What did I do?'"

She then warned the host, "Don't get lewd on me either," to which Stern immediately answered, "Derek Jeter," whom Carey dated from 1997 to 1998. "Howard, I told you I'm a very innocent girl. You can't do that kind of stuff to me," the singer said in a demure tone. However, Stern argued, "There's nothing innocent about you."

He went on to ask, "You ever wear underwear? Are you wearing underwear tonight?" Carey answered yes to both, saying: "Howard, you think I'm going to go with this [her dress] without the panties? Who do you think I am?" At the end of the interview, Carey told Stern he could talk to her "anytime he wants" about his supposed "problems about the business."

The host took her up on her offer, and said: "I want to establish a relationship with you, call you at home. I want to hear about when you were naked on a sailboat with Chris Farley and Debbie Gibson." Carey denied the rumor and accused Stern of "spiraling out of control." The latter admitted that he was just "making up stuff."

He kept flirting with the singer, saying "If you were my girlfriend..." stuff, to which the R&B artist said: "Why [do you talk] about having a girlfriend when you have a wife? Your wife is the coolest woman... Mrs. Stern, you're the best." But hey, it's Howard Stern, so he just told Carey he'd eat whatever she cooked right "off her belly."

Howard Stern feuded with Bill Maher after the latter's "sexist" comments about the former's wife, Beth Stern.
