A picture-perfect collab is one of the few things that almost guarantees a hit in music, and because of this, we have seen some of the biggest artists of all time link up for a track. 2022 was filled with amazing collabs in hip-hop, and we recently saw Kelly Clarkson and David Guetta link up, showing that collabs work in all genres.
Years ago, Eminem and Marilyn Manson were highly-controversial figures in music, and during that time, the pair almost came together for what would have been a major collaboration.
Surprisingly, Eminem wasn't able to get Manson on board with the song, as there were some things that even Manson thought went too far.
Marilyn Manson Did Not Want To Collab On "97 Bonnie & Clyde" Because He Thought It Was Too Misogynistic
In a previous era of music, controversy was king, and few artists were as controversial as Eminem and Marilyn Manson were earlier in their careers. These guys were magnets for wild press stories, and during this time, Eminem wanted Manson to hop on one of his records.
The song in question is "97 Bonnie & Clyde," a song that lyrically focuses on some truly despicable things.
"Here, you wanna help Dada tie a rope around this rock? / We’ll tie it to her footsie then we’ll roll her off the dock / Ready now, here we go, on the count of free / One, two, free — whee! / There goes / Mama, spashin' in the water / No more fightin' with Dad, no more restrainin' order / No more stepdada, no more new brother," some of the lyrics read.
Surprisingly, this was simply too much for Manson, someone who never shied away from pushing boundaries with his music.
"He asked me to sing on his first record, and I would have, except that the song he asked me to sing was – and this might sound strange – too misogynistic. It was the one about killing his girlfriend and putting her in a trunk. It was on a record I could listen to, but it was too over-the-top for me to associate with. It didn’t represent where I was at. First of all, I don’t drive. And I wouldn’t put a girl in a trunk; that’s where I keep other stuff. That’s my dry, deadpan humor kicking in," Manson said, per LADBible.
Though the pair never linked up for the song, they each collaborated with numerous artists through the years.

The Pair Have Collaborated With Many Other Artists, But Never Worked Together
LouderSound dished on some of Manson's collabs, including one of his most surprising.
"There’s been a fair few surprising Marilyn Manson collaborations over the years. Artists he has worked with include DMX, Lady Gaga and Eminem, however the surprises keep coming when in 2013 Mazza popped up on Avril Lavigne’s self-titled fifth album on the song Bad Girl," the site wrote.
Avril is a lot cleaner lyrically than Em, but seeing Manson and Avril together was a surprise to music fans, especially given Manson's history.
As for Eminem, well, his list of collabs is legendary. Works with Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Elton John, 50 Cent, Rihanna, Beyoncé, and Lil Wayne are just a few examples of people that have worked with the iconic rapper. He's done songs with countless artists, and has dropped more than a few classics.
As we mentioned before, Eminem and Marilyn Manson are no stranger to controversy, but currently, Manson is staring down allegations that have seemingly curtailed his career.

The Controversial Manson Is Currently Being Charged With Heinous Crimes
February of 2021 marked the beginning of this legal battle for Manson, as his ex, actress Evan Rachel Wood, alleged that she had been the victim of abuse at the hands of Marilyn Manson.
"I am here to expose this dangerous man and call out the many industries that have enabled him, before he ruins any more lives. I stand with the many victims who will no longer be silent," she wrote on social media.
Wood wasn't the only person with allegations, however, as other women have since come forward.
One such person was Esme Bianco, of Game of Thrones fame.
"Two years after they began dating, Bianco moved in with him in 2011. During that time, she says he controlled her schedule, what she could wear, and once cut her with a knife and later sent an image of the injuries to his then-assistant and a bandmate," Billboard reported.
“I basically felt like a prisoner, I came and went at his pleasure. Who I spoke to was completely controlled by him. I called my family hiding in the closet,” she said.
