Summary

  • Some Shark Tank pitches have made the sharks furious, leading to no deals or heated arguments.
  • Frustration arises when entrepreneurs fail to provide specific responses or expectations during their pitch.
  • Confident pitches can backfire if the entrepreneurs come across as arrogant or unwilling to work with the sharks.

Throughout Shark Tank's history, the business owners who have pitched the sharks have to feel very fortunate. After all, one person who pitched became extremely rich and another was so confident in their company that they rejected a big money offer from Mark Cuban.

However, some Shark Tank pitches have gone awry, including a huge deal that completely flopped and one that resulted in a restraining order. While those people suffered Shark Tank failures after making a deal, some people who've pitched have managed to make the sharks furious before they left the tank.

When Five Minute Furniture's Jared Joyce entered the tank during Season 3, he asked for $250,000 in exchange for 25% of his business. Fortunately for Jared, he seemed extremely confident in himself as he asked the sharks to value his business at $1 million.

However, things didn't go well for Jared since a revelation during his pitch greatly annoyed the sharks. While pitching Five Minute Furniture, which was a company that had a lot of potential, Jared explained that he was working on bringing a lot of other products to market too. However, Jared made it clear that none of his other products would be part of the deal.

When Daymond John asked Jared why the sharks wouldn't get a bite of his other products, he came across like the stereotype of a used car salesman as he responded. "The problem with that statement is that you're saying 'Hey, let's get married,' and I'm saying, hey, buy me a drink first."

That response annoyed Daymond so much he called Jared "Slick Willy." As the pitch continued, Lori Greiner and Kevin O'Leary offered $250,000 for 100% of his company because they refused to work with him. Robert Herjavec even told Jared, "I just don't trust you."

During the fifth season of Shark Tank, two doctor brothers, Albert and Richard Amini, pitched their company, Rolodoc. The pitch was for a social media company used to communicate with doctors. Initially, the pitch seemed to be going well until Mark began questioning how doctors would be convinced to sign up.

As the brothers were taking questions, they annoyed the sharks because most of their answers were generic instead of specific responses. Things came to a head when Robert asked a specific question and one of the brothers said, "We're trying to bring social media to medicine."

After that statement, Mark dropped his arms down and flung his head back in frustration. Soon after, Mark got out of his chair, shook the brothers' hands, and said, "Worst presentation ever. I'm out."

7 Why Did Sunscreen Mist Make The Sharks Furious?

Pitched During Season 6

During Season 6 of Shark Tank, a pair of entrepreneurs pitched their company that sold large booths that sprayed people who entered with sunscreen. When the business owners revealed that one of the booths was sold to customers for $31,500, they got uproarious laughter from Kevin O'Leary.

However, the laughter quickly went away as five sharks steadily became more and more annoyed with the answers they were getting.

At different points of the pitch, the owners claimed that the business had only been active for three months and that they sold one of the booths two years earlier. When Mark asked them to explain that discrepancy, the owners said they had only been serious about the business for three months. Mark then tore them to shreds while pointing out they sold a product to a customer even though they weren't serious about the business.

Ultimately, Mark became so frustrated with the pitch that he let out a high-pitched sound of anger before saying he was out.

6 Why Did Simple Habit Make The Sharks Furious?

Pitched During Season 9

  • Deal or No Deal:

  • No Deal

During Season 9 of Shark Tank, Simple Habit's founder and CEO, Yuhna Kim, pitched her wellness app. After asking for $600,000 for 5% of her company, Yuhna seemed very confident as she presented impressive figures of how successful the app already was.

As the pitch continued, it was revealed that Simple Habit had other investors who gave the company money at the same valuation. That revelation led to a series of questions that made Mark and Daymond very frustrated.

Mark even called Yuhna a "gold digger" because he felt she undervalued the sharks. Daymond was angry because he felt Yuhna didn't need an investment and he was offended that she pitched on Shark Tank. Daymond's anger was because Yuhna took up a spot that other business owners who needed the money could have used to pitch.

By the end of Yuhna's pitch, Mark and the guest shark, Sir Richard Branson, had become so annoyed that they dumped water on each other. After Yuhna left the tank, the sharks then proceeded to have a heated debate about the pitch.

The pitch that was presented to the sharks was for a company that produced lockboxes that could be attached to the door of homes that were for sale. An app then allowed owners to remotely open the lockbox. The idea was that the house's key would be placed in the lockbox so potential buyers could gain access at a moment's notice.

During the pitch, Chris argued that the business wasn't original enough since similar products exist with the only difference being they couldn't be opened remotely. Chris also argued that traditional keys may not be used for that much longer. Ultimately, Kevin and Barbara Corcoran made a deal with a contingency to protect themselves.

However, once the deal was struck and the person who was pitching left the den, Mark and Chris exploded into a heated argument. Things became so heated that both men insulted each other's intelligence and Chris told Mark to "shut up and listen" at one point.

4 Why Did Skinny Mirror Make The Sharks Furious?

In the span of Shark Tank's run, it's clear that two things are not up for debate: There have been many terrible pitches and Kevin mainly cares about making money. Despite those facts, Kevin was so morally outraged by Skinny Mirror that he got angry.

The business was exactly what it sounds like, a company that sells mirrors that make people look skinnier than they are. The owner claimed she wanted to make people feel more confident, but she also sold her product to businesses.

All the sharks took the owner to task for helping businesses trick their customers, but it was Kevin who really seemed to get angry. In the end, Kevin called the owner out, went out, and forbade the other sharks from investing.

"I will not be part of this sham, because that it what it is... You can smile all you want, but the truth is you're lying to people. I'm out, but I also forbid any other shark from investing in this."

3 Why Did SCOTTeVEST Make The Sharks Furious?

Pitched During Season 3

  • Deal or No Deal:

During Season 3 of Shark Tank, Scott Jordan pitched the SCOTTeVEST, technology-enabled clothing that he intended to license to every clothing company.

As the pitch continued, Scott revealed that he had a patent for "a garment with no wires in it but the capacity to wire things in it." After Mark learned the details of the patent, he was so outraged that he stated that patents like that are ruining America.

"That is ridiculous. That's just common sense. Wires in, wires out. That's what's killing this country, that we get dumb**s patents that people then turn around and sue when it's just common sense stuff. It's ridiculous... Running a wire through a piece of clothing? That's a patent? Are you kidding me?... You're crazy. No, no, no, no, you're so full of crap."

2 Why Did Scholly Make The Sharks Furious?

Offer:

$40,000 for 15%

When Christopher Gray walked into the tank to pitch Scholly, he presented his app designed to help people get scholarships. After asking for $40,000 for 15%, Gray didn't have the time to reveal many details of his business before Lori and Daymond gave him the exact offer he was asking for.

After Gray left the tank, the tension between the sharks quickly exploded because the other sharks accused Lori and Daymond of investing in the business as a form of charity. Of course, Daymond and Lori defended themselves and talked about how happy they were.

Ultimately, Mark, Kevin and Robert became so frustrated that they walked out on Lori and Daymond. If that wasn't enough, Robert said something pretty shocking before he left.

"You know what? You're really p*ssing me off right now. I'm gonna say something rude to you, and I don't wanna say something rude to you, so I'm just going to go."

1 Why Did Pavlok Make The Sharks Furious?

Pitched During Season 7

  • Deal or No Deal:

  • No Deal

During Season 7 of Shark Tank, Maneesh Sethi pitched his company, Pavlok, as he asked for $500,000 for 3.14% of the business. Maneesh's company produced The Shock Watch, which was a product designed to help wearers quit their bad habits. Wearers could give themselves a shock when they engage in their bad habit.

While some of the shark's found the product dubious, that wasn't what caused the anger. When Kevin offered a deal, Maneesh's response was very surprising.

"Mr. Wonderful, I just... can't work with you... I'm just worried that if we work together... I do like him as a person, but I feel like as an investor in the company, it would be really bad... The structure [of the offer] is actually quite good... It's the person. I feel like I would take an offer from anybody besides Mr. Wonderful."

After Maneesh stated he wouldn't make a deal with Kevin, the shark angrily responded with vulgarities.

"Maneesh, you're an a**h**e. Get the f**k out of here... F**k you."
