In terms of memorable episodes, this one was surely a shoot Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik won't ever forget. It was a significant moment for Amy and Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory as the two shared their first kiss. However, a major problem, Parsons was feeling ill during the lengthy shoot.

In the following, we're going to take a closer look at what happened to Parsons, and why the actor was feeling under the weather. Credit to Bialik, who acted like a true professional, but took a wise precaution in-between takes. We'll reveal their thoughts on the scene, and how the fans felt about the final product.

Let's take a closer look.

Mayim Bailik Agreed To Kiss Jim Parsons During Several Takes Despite The Fact That The Actor Was Ill

The first kiss on The Big Bang Theory between Sheldon and Amy was a massive moment and one the fans adored. However, shooting the scene was not an easy process. Jim Parsons was always healthy and very careful when it came to his well-being, similar to Sheldon on the show.

However, for this one episode, Parsons was very sick and feverish. Given that TBBT was shooting on a tight schedule at the time, pushing the scene back to later was not something the show was thrilled about doing. So Parsons was forced to shoot the kissing scene with an illness, while Bialik was a complete sport and went along with it.

Bialik was wise though. The actress brought peroxide to set and would rinse between takes. It seems like the tactic worked as Bialik did not get sick after a lengthy shoot with Jim Parsons.

She revealed, “The man was visibly sweating and feverish, so I rinsed with peroxide in between every kiss, every scene, every take, so that I wouldn’t get sick. It’s such a great scene, and it turned out so great, but it was a really hard night. … To think of all the work that went into it, I’m so glad it was so sweet. I really loved it. Oh, and I did not get sick.”

It all worked out in the end as the two stars created a memorable moment on the show. Even Jim Parsons had high praise for his co-star.

Fans Had Huge Praise For Sheldon And Amy's Kiss Despite The Struggles Of The Scene

As expected, the scene itself got strong reviews from the audience, and was rewatched by over 3 million fans on YouTube. Fans had a lot to say looking back, appreciating the little details between Parsons and Bialik during the scene.

One fan wrote, "I love how the crowd all gasp when she kisses him. it is like "oh my gosh, Sheldon is being kissed and he is not screaming about germs or trying to get away." they didn't have time to say any of that so they just gasped."

Another fan notes that the episode finally showed Amy as her own unique self, and not a copy of Sheldon.

"I think THIS was the episode where Amy's character changed from a Sheldon clone to her own character."

JIm Parsons also commented on his part in the episode. That actor admitted he wasn't feeling the greatest on the day, but Bialik was completely supportive the entire time.

Jim Parsons Admitted The Scene Was One Of The Rare Times He Was Sick

Not only was the scene a stressful one, but they also had to do several different takes of the scene. It was a long day at the office for Parsons.

He revealed, "I was sick with something, like a bad respiratory cold. And it was ironic because I always took care of myself, and here I am sick during one of the very rare times I have to kiss her. And kiss her several times because I knew we’d have to do several takes. I was like, This is unbelievable! I felt bad about it, I really did."

Parsons credited Bialik for not worrying about his illness, though he did note that she was taking something in-between takes.

"Mayim is always very game and never one to worry about those things too much, although she did have some sort of thing that she was gargling every time we did a take.”

A tough day at the office for Parsons. Nonetheless, the actor was thrilled about the way the storyline went. Jim was a big advocate of keeping Bialik on the show long-term, and the scene assured fans she wasn't going anywhere.
