Mel Gibson is very sensitive when it comes to the questions asked during an interview. That was the case way back when in the '90s, as Gibson actually left the MTV Awards after he didn't like the inappropriate questions he was asked, without being given a notice. It seems like things haven't changed in the recent years, as Gibson went completely silent after he was asked about the Will Smith slap, and it resulted in his publicist ending the interview.

Perhaps his most awkward moment took place alongside Dean Richards while promoting the film, Edge of Darkness. Although things started off okay, it took a twist when the host asked Gibson about his past troubles. Gibson was clearly upset this was brought up, and it caused a tense ending to interview. Even during the close off between the two, Gibson was clearly done with things. Let's take a look at how it all went down.

Mel Gibson has gone through troubling times throughout his career. In 2006, his rant of the Jewish community hurt his standing. Gibson claims he was not in the right state of mind during the forgettable rant.

“It was an unfortunate incident,” he said. “I was loaded and angry and arrested. I was recorded illegally by an unscrupulous police officer who was never prosecuted for that crime. And then it was made public by him for profit, and by members of – we’ll call it the press. So, not fair. I guess as who I am, I’m not allowed to have a nervous breakdown, ever.”

In addition, the actor also worked on his drinking problem behind the scenes. Back in 2016, the actor stated that he was ten years sober, and feeling better than ever.

“Ten years have gone by,” he said. “I’m feeling good. I’m sober, all of that kind of stuff, and for me it’s a dim thing in the past. But others bring it up, which kind of I find annoying, because I don’t understand why after 10 years it’s any kind of issue. Surely if I was really what they say I was, some kind of hater, there’d be evidence of actions somewhere. There never has been.”

Although Gibson said all the right things, he wasn't as fond about discussing these issues during a certain interview...

Mel Gibson Was Left Furious With Dean Richards' Final Question That Brought Up His Troubled Past

The interview at the time was meant to promote Mel Gibson's 2010 film, Edge of Darkness. The movie proved that he was still a star, bringing in $81 million at the box office, a decent number. Reviews weren't harsh either, with the likes of IMDb rating the film with 6.6 stars.

The interview was going just fine, up until the final question as host Dean Richards decides to bring up Gibson's past troubles. "Do you think the public will perceive you differently given all the news about you?" Mel instantly looks puzzled asking, "what are you referring to specifically.

Richards doesn't shy away saying, "Referring to the drinking problem, the rant, you know what I'm talking about." Gibson responds, "That was almost four years ago dude, I've moved on, you haven't." Gibson continues by saying, "let's move on," while he's clearly frustrated when the interview ends, giving the thumbs up and simply saying, "goodbye," in a sarcastic manner.

Fans were split on the moment, as some blamed the interviewer for asking such a question when the purpose was for Gibson to promote a film. Others ripped on Gibson for taking an aggressive approach to the question, as it could've been a way for the actor to clear the air and answer things calmly.

Nonetheless, the interview took a turn Gibson obviously didn't like... but it wasn't the first time a Dean Richards interview took a tough twist.

Fresh off her breakup from Justin Bieber, maybe bringing up her ex was not the best way to go about things. That's exactly what took place between Richards and Selena Gomez, as the host tried to bring up Justin's troubling behavior at the time.

“Is there something about him that we don’t get or we don’t understand? I mean, there is one story after another of, you know, pretty outrageous behavior that we’re reading about. What don’t we get about him or what is it that he’s not getting out there?”

Gomez took a pause during the questions, and clearly she had no intention of answering them. Suddenly, Gomez's team steps in calling an abrupt end to the interview. It is very possible that this was a topic that was off-limits during a sort of pre-interview, but Richards decided to go there anyway...
