The Will Smith And Chris Rock Oscar Slap Took Hollywood By Storm

The moment caused a huge shock in both Hollywood and the media. Will Smith's Oscar slap went completely viral, and the actor is still in hiding from it.

Lots of celebs chimed in on the matter, including Jim Carrey who was not impressed by Will's behavior. "I was sickened. I was sickened by the standing ovation. I felt like Hollywood is just spineless en masse. And it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we’re not the cool club anymore."

"If you want to yell from the audience or disapprove or show disapproval, or say something on Twitter or whatever. You do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face because they said words."

Carrey would further state that he would have sued Smith for $200 million, given that the footage of the moment will last forever.

Chris Rock decided to keep quiet about what had taken place and as it turns out, a lot of other celebs had no interest in addressing the matter either, that includes Mel Gibson.

Mel Gibson's Team Ended His Fox News Interview After The Rock And Smith Controversy Was Brought Up

It is very evident, Mel Gibson is focused on rebuilding his image - that also seems to be the goal of his PR team, who are very selective with the interviews the actor takes on.

During his time on Fox News alongside Jesse Watters, the interview was supposed to be about his latest directorial effort at the time in Father Stu.

Gibson stated, "Everyone’s got a boulder, man."

“Something’s going to come and knock you down at some point in your life. Now. Later. And how do you stand up from that, you know? How do you not only stand up, but how do you find a purpose in that? There’s a purpose for all of this. So it’s looking for that purpose.”

The interview was going great and of the light-hearted nature, with Gibson all smiles. However, it all went south after Watters brought up the Chris Rock and Will Smith Oscar slap.

“You understand it probably better than a lot of people, with your career,” Watters asked Gibson. “And I was wondering if, you know, you had been the one that jumped up out of his seat and slapped Chris Rock, if you would have been treated the same way, Mel?”

Before Gibson could utter any type of response, his publicist intervened stating, "Um, I’m — thank you, Jesse. Uh, we — that is our time,” the voice said.

Looking back at the interview, fans were pleased with the interjection.

What Did The Fans Think Of The Gibson Interview Coming To An Abrupt End?

Fans agree that the decision was the correct one, especially given how uncomfortable Gibson looked after Watters made the statement. Given that he's focused on bettering himself, fans applauded his PR team's move.

"Good on you Mel for not taking the bait. Stay on the high road and avoid the demons."

"Good old Mel Gibson what a legend. One of these days he might actually do an interview that doesn't end in an argument or something happening lol I'm not woke so I love all his films and think he's a wonderful person."

"You can see him struggling with a sudden anxiety attack from the question. He wants nothing to do with this."

"I do appreciate him not falling for the bait though. Anyone Will Smith has ever spoken to in his entire life, has decided to come forward and bash him. A very strange world we live in."

Good on Mel for wanting to keep things on a positive note.
