“When you’re ready, you’re like, ‘All right, let’s do this. Let’s tackle this last senior year. Let’s get out of here,’” she explained. “Stranger Things takes up a lot of time to film and it’s preventing me from creating stories that I’m passionate about. So I’m ready to say, ‘Thank you, and goodbye.’”

When pressed on if she thinks it’ll be difficult to say good-bye to her Stranger Things co-stars, Millie said she doesn’t expect they’ll lose touch very easily. “When it ends, I’m going to be able to still see these people,” the actress replied.

Millie was only 12-years old when she scored the leading role in the Netflix teen drama, which premiere in 2016. Since then, she’s been leading the series. The show began filming for season 5 in June, while it’s expected to release mid to late next year.

Millie went on to reflect on what growing up in the spotlight has been like, including the criticism she and her co-stars faced for their interview presence early in their career.

“We’re kids — we talk over each other. I was just penalized for overtalking and oversharing and being too loud,” she said.

“It’s hard to hear that at 13. You’re like, ‘I don’t want to ever talk again. I don’t want to be the loud person,’” she went on. “In interviews I couldn’t help but think of all the comments. So, I just remembered to stay silent and speak when I was spoken to, even though I was dying to join in. I just felt it wasn’t my turn.”

Millie, who’s currently engaged to Jake Bongiovi, didn’t give any details into what her future projects may look like. But the star recently revealed she saw herself following a different career path if she hadn’t become an actress.

In September, Millie revealed she’s been interested in working with seniors since a young age. The actress made the confession during an appearance on Lorraine while promoting her book Nineteen Steps, released earlier this year, which was inspired by her late grandmother’s life.

“A huge passion of mine, if I had not taken the route I have taken, would have been to work in a care home,” she explained.

“I love the history of older people and the stories they do tell, even if they are completely made up, which sometimes they are!” Millie went on. “But I hope after reading [Nineteen Steps] you go and talk to your grandparents or you your parents and learn about your family history.”

While she may not end up working in a care home, there’s no denying that Millie is likely to go on to big things even when Stranger Things concludes next year.
