Following on from the epic cinematic event that was Avengers: Endgame was never bound to be an easy thing for Marvel to achieve. However, with phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe introducing new Disney+ plus shows such as WandaVision, Loki, and Hawkeye, the success that the new era of Marvel has seen has been huge. In particular, the release of Marvel’s brand-new series Moon Knight immediately ranked at number 1 out of the prior shows with the most views upon release for a new Marvel project.
The revolutionary series stars the hugely successful and talented, Oscar Isaac as Marc Spector (and Steven Grant), an ex-mercenary with Dissociative Identity Disorder who fights to save humanity under the servitude of the ancient Egyptian god of the moon, Khonshu (F Murray Abraham). Whilst the series has received a great amount of praise for several aspects such as plot, cinematography, and acting, the soundtrack for the show also seems to have made quite the impact on its audience. So let’s take a look at some of the songs that have gone viral after having been featured on Moon Knight.
7 ‘Day ‘N’ Nite’ By Kid Cudi
Coming in first we have the very first musical flavor of the now hugely successful series. Back in January 2022, the trailer for Moon Knight was released. In the trailer, fans were able to get a first look at what was to come in the psychological mind-boggling thriller as scenes of Isaac as the struggling Steven Grant/Marc Spector played over the eerie narration and sampled track of Kid Cudi’s “Day ‘N’ Nite”. The original song, released way back in 2008, was part of the rapper’s debut mixtape A Kid Named Cudi. Upon the release of the Moon Knight trailer, Kid Cudi himself tweeted about the use of his song stating how “sick” it was.
6 ‘A Man Without Love’ By Engelbert Humperdinck
Up next, we have a 60s pop song revived through its use in Moon Knight. During the first episode of the series, “The Goldfish Problem”, whilst the staple Marvel title card sequence begins on screen, a soft hum of Engelbert Humperdinck’s “A Man Without Love” can be heard. The song then continues to play through the following scene in which audiences are introduced to Steven Grant and his extensive morning routine as he checks for signs of having sleepwalked throughout the night. The song then later plays again after a particularly physical scene after which Steven wakes back up in his apartment and assumes that the whole sequence had been dreamt. The ballad was originally released back in 1968 and was based on the Anna Identici and The Sandpipers’ Italian version "Quando M'Innamoro". However, with the recent release of Moon Knight the song has blown up all over social media, especially on TikTok.
5 ‘El Melouk’ By Ahmed Saad Feat. 3enba & Double Zuksh
Another Moon Knight song that blew up all over TikTok upon its feature in the series was the 2021 song “El Melouk” by Ahmed Saad featuring 3enba and Double Zuksh. The song appeared during the second episode of the Marvel show, “Summon The Suit”, and played over the end credits. As the ending scene of the episode showed Marc Spector in Cairo, the contemporary Egyptian track that followed flowed nicely and made fans excited about the following Egypt-based episode. Despite the song being released a whole year earlier in 2021, following its feature on Moon Knight, fans from all over the world began to show their appreciation for the track causing it to go viral on TikTok.
4 ‘Enta’ By DJ Kaboo
Another Egyptian track that garnered recognition and praise due to its feature in Moon Knight was “Enta” by Egyptian artist, DJ Kaboo. Much like Humperdinck’s “A Man Without Love”, the predominantly instrumental song played over the Marvel title card during the show’s third episode, “The Friendly Type”. The artist’s music was also featured in a previous moment in the series during its first episode in which DJ Kaboo’s song “Arab Trap: Made In Egypt” played faintly over a scene of Steven leaving the museum in which he works at. The introduction of DJ Kaboo’s music marked a huge milestone for Marvel as according to the DJ’s own Instagram page, it was the first time an Arab musician’s work was featured on a Marvel project.
3 ‘Every Grain Of Sand’ By Bob Dylan
Up next, we have another track from the past to have been revived through its feature on Moon Knight with Bob Dylan’s 1981 hit “Every Grain Of Sand.” This classic hit was the very first song to play in the entire series. During Moon Knight’s eerie opening scene of villain Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) performing an ancient ritual of filling his shoes with broken shards of glass, the peaceful soft rock song plays in the background creating a perfect juxtaposition.
2 ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’ By Wham!
Another classic 80s hit that plays during the first episode, is the 1984 pop song “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” by English pop duo Wham!. Much like Dylan’s “Every Grain Of Sand”, the song plays perfectly into the comedy aspect of the show as it is played over an intense car chase scene. Like many others of the show’s songs, “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” went viral on social media after its feature on Moon Knight despite it already having been an iconic song.
1 ‘Salka’ By Hassan Shakosh Feat. Wegz
And finally, we have another Arabic hit with “Salka” by Hassan Shakosh featuring Wegz. In the series, this fast-paced and upbeat song plays during its third episode. The song is heard during a scene in which Marc and Layla (May Calamawy) are journeying through Egypt on a small boat. In between their intense conversation, a few of the boat’s passengers begin to play the song and dance altogether, depicting a scene of a traditional celebration.
