During the '80s, Mötley Crüe became one of the biggest bands in the world. Beloved by millions of fans, the members of Mötley Crüe became so famous that fans are interested in Nikki Sixx's Son and Tommy Lee's relationship with his sons.
On top of the fact that they and their music have become so popular, they have beaten the odds in other ways too. After all, while Mötley Crüe has broken up a couple of times, they have always reformed. Still together to this day, it doesn't seem like the members of Mötley Crüe have changed much since they still court controversy and don't back down.
Given everything that Mötley Crüe has accomplished, it is only natural for fans to ask what their legacy will be. Sadly for the members of the band and many of their fans, it seems like they will never achieve one thing many of their peers have.
According to Mötley Crüe, they have been told that they will never be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because of their antics. That seems pretty incredible given that several Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have committed serious crimes over the years.
Why Motley Crue Isn't In The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame
When Mötley Crüe took the music world by storm, the band had more than its fair share of detractors. The reason for that is the so-called hair metal movement that many people felt Mötley Crüe was at the forefront of was hated by many people who thought it was a joke.
No matter how many detractors Mötley Crüe had when they first rose to fame, the band went on to change the mind of many former haters. The main reason why many of those people came around to enjoy Mötley Crüe's music is they released a slew of hit songs and proved to be much more than a flash in the pan.
According to Mötley Crüe's website, the group they call "The World’s Most Notorious Rock Band" has a long list of truly incredible achievements that everyone has to respect.
"They've accumulated worldwide album sales exceeding 100m, 7 platinum and multi-platinum albums, 22 Top 40 mainstream rock hits, 6 Top 20 pop singles, 3 GRAMMY nominations, 4 New York Times best-sellers and even landed a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame."
The band's website continues, "With utmost success from their biopic, The Dirt on Netflix and its soundtrack, the band landed another #1 album on iTunes and Top 10 worldwide with 22 chart-topping singles and 7 albums on the charts."
Given everything listed on the band's website and how many years Mötley Crüe has been playing concerts for sold-out audiences, they clearly are one of the most successful bands of all time. With that in mind, it certainly seems like a no-brainer that Mötley Crüe should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
On top of all that, when the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame conducted an in-museum fan vote about who needed to be inducted in 2019, Mötley Crüe took the top spot.
When cleveland.com published an article about Mötley Crüe still failing to be inducted despite that fan vote, they included a quote from Nikki Sixx. According to what Sixx told Kerrang! during an interview, Mötley Crüe has been told they will never be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for a specific reason.
“We were told by the Hall Of Fame that we would never get in, because of how we’ve acted. So that’s kind of it.”
From the moment that Mötley Crüe first rose to fame, the band has seemingly taken a lot of pride in letting the world know that they were partying hard. For that reason, it made perfect sense when the band put out a biography titled "The Dirt: Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band".
Given the way that the members of Mötley Crüe talk about themselves, none of them could be shocked that they are controversial. In fact, the band's guitarist Nikki Sixx has even said during interviews that Mötley Crüe's past behavior would be deemed sexist now. That said, Sixx also highlighted that the same could be said about the things most people did back then.
While many people would passionately argue with Sixx's defense of Mötley Crüe's past behavior, his comments underline a strange element of the report that the band is banned from the Hall of Fame. After all, several people who've been inducted into the Hall of Fame have done deplorable things.
Serious Crimes Committed By Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees
In an ideal world, the music industry would be full of artists that are fantastic performers and good human beings. In reality, however, there is no denying that simply isn't the case.
If you ask the members of Mötley Crüe, they are the most debaucherous band in history. In reality, many bands who are in the Hall of Fame have similar reputations or did at one time including Metallica, Black Sabbath, and Van Halen.
Worse yet, several members of the Hall of Fame have been accused of doing truly horrible things.
After Chuck Berry was inducted in 1986, he was accused of having a hidden camera in a restaurant he owned that captured footage of female patrons in a room that should be private. After his home was raided, those recordings were recovered, and he wound up settling a class-action lawsuit brought by the people who were recorded.
Long before Jerry Lee Lewis was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1987, he married his 13-year-old cousin in 1957 when he was 22. Infuriatingly, several other inductees have been linked to people who were too young including Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Jimmy Page whose been inducted twice, and Steven Tyler.
Sadly, there are many more examples of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees who've done terrible things. With that in mind, the truth is that it seems confusing that Mötley Crüe has supposedly been banned from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
