Summary

  • Nathan Fillion, known for his roles in Castle and The Rookie, has been cast as the new Green Lantern in James Gunn's DC Universe.
  • Fillion has expressed interest in playing in the DC Comics sandbox for years and is finally getting the opportunity to do so.
  • Fillion's net worth is estimated to be around $18 to $25 million, and he has earned significant salaries for his TV work, including The Rookie. He also serves as an executive producer on the show.

James Gunn’s new DC Universe continues to come together as the studio boss and director prepares to film Superman: Legacy. Following the announcement of David Corenswet as the new (and taller) Man of Steel, the casting has gone on to add Nathan Fillion as its new Green Lantern.

And while he was once rumored to be playing Marvel’s Wonder Man (the actor eventually joined Marvel in Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. movies), Fillion is now preparing to suit up for a superhero role previously played by Ryan Reynolds. As he does, his net worth might also come as a surprise to fans.

The Things

Following the end of Castle in 2016, Fillion wasted no time getting back to work. For instance, he continued working on the comedy series Con Man with Alan Tudyk and Mindy Sterling. The following year, the actor memorably guest-starred in the crime comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine as Mark Devereaux.

At the same time, Fillion also continued with his recurring appearance on ABC’s Modern Family as Rainer Shine. He was also a recurring guest star on Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet as Gary West.

In the years that followed, Fillion also ventured into the world of DC Comics, although as a voice talent. Across various animated projects, the actor also continued to be the voice of Green Lantern (he previously did similar work in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights and Justice League: Doom) in The Death of Superman, Reign of the Supermen, and The Death and Return of Superman.

Around the same time, Fillion also started work on The Rookie, which wrapped up its fifth season in May 2023.

A few years later, Fillion also did voice work once again, but this time, it was for Marvel Studios and its animated series M.O.D.O.K. where the actor (interestingly) voiced the part of Simon Williams, a.k.a. Wonder Man.

Soon after, Fillion also reunited with Gunn as he played T.D.K. in The Suicide Squad. Soon after, he worked with the director again on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 where he played Master Karja. In addition, the actor also recently made an uncredited appearance in Pete Davidson’s Bupkis as Ace Spade.

Interestingly, Fillion has long expressed his interest in playing in the DC Comics sandbox (beyond doing voice work in animated projects). Back in 2015, the actor was participating in a Q&A with fans during the Chicago Wizard World Comic Con when he was asked about playing a superhero for DC or Marvel.

The star revealed that he would readily “take a pretty good crack” at the DC Comics character Booster Gold. Fillion also expressed some interest in lesser-known characters Ambush Bug and Greatest American Hero.

Nearly a decade later, Fillion does find himself back in the DC Universe after briefly appearing as T.D.K. in 2021. In a recent announcement, Fillion is confirmed as Gunn’s new Green Lantern. Whereas Reynolds played Hal Jordan, The Rookie star was cast as Guy Gardner, which is another character that also transforms into the alien hero in green.

Meanwhile, aside from Superman: Legacy, Fillion also stars in the upcoming thriller Skincare with Elizabeth Banks. And while production on the film wrapped prior to the WGA strike, the film’s release date hasn’t been announced.

What Is Nathan Fillion's Net Worth In 2023?

According to estimates, Fillion’s net worth is around $18 to $25 million at present. Back in 2016, Forbes named him as one of the world’s highest-paid TV actors, putting Fillion’s earnings that year at $12 million, which is tied with his fellow Castle lead star, Stana Katic. Reports also indicated that both stars were paid around $100,000 per episode during the show’s final season.

Similarly, Fillion is also reported to be getting $100,000 per episode for his work on The Rookie. With the show having already received two Emmy nods, however, it’s also possible that the actor has since received a rather generous salary bump. It’s also worth noting that Fillion also serves as an executive producer on the show, which means that he is also likely collecting more at the backend.

In addition, Fillion also serves as an executive producer in the spinoff The Rookie: Feds, which stars Niecy Nash. So far, the actor has also appeared in a few episodes of the new show. And while more appearances from Fillion would certainly be welcome, ABC is yet to renew the spinoff for a sophomore season. That said, The Rookie already managed to secure its sixth-season renewal.

Meanwhile, it is unclear how much Fillion will receive for his work on Superman: Legacy. For reference, Gal Gadot was reportedly paid around $300,000 for her supporting role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That said, Fillion is also poised to earn a lot more should the actor do more work in Gunn and Safran’s new DC Universe.

And while nothing has been confirmed for Fillion beyond Superman: Legacy, it is worth noting that Gunn and Safran confirmed that there is a Green Lantern tv series in the works. That said, that show will supposedly focus on Hal Jordan and John Stewart, two other DC characters who became the Green Lantern.

Interestingly though, there are also plans for a Booster Gold series, meaning Fillion may finally get his longtime wish after all.
