Fans On Reddit Called Nathan Fillion The Worst Modern Family Guest Star

Over on Reddit, fans discussed the very worst guest stars on the show. As it turns out, Nathan Fillion was the consensus pick as the worst, while fans called Ray Liota, Elizabeth Banks and Catherine O'Hara. The most liked comment on the Reddit post writes, "I really don’t like Rainer. (Nathan Fillion)."

In fairness to the actor, he was given a tough role playing the role of Haley Dunphy's over-aged boyfriend. Some called that entire storyline completely forgettable.

There were other names fans mentioned among the worst, and surprisingly, Kevin Hart also made that list.

"Is it bad I can't remember all of their names? Kevin Hart's storyline was a bit bland, nothing to call home about. I liked Kristen Johnston's guest star, I just wished they had made her character more funny rather then sad funny, (Although I doubt she could pull a Sally Solomon again, that was her best character)."

Another fan wrote, "Lin Manuel-Miranda's character was the worst, I just skip through those portions of the episode when I rewatch it."

Nathan Fillion Admitted He Was Very Nervous During His Time On Modern Family

Back in 2016, The NY Post discussed why Modern Family made Nathan Fillion nervous. Given his experience on television, this was especially surprising. The publication wrote about his time on the series, "Fillion, a big fan of “Modern Family,” admits he was uncharacteristically nervous coming into a successful show where he admired all the actors."

Nathan went on to discuss his time on the show, and what it was like to play the role of Rainer.

“It’s kind of a niche for me to play characters who are vain but don’t know that they’re vain. It’s something I’m practiced at,” he says. “It’s very easy to laugh at a character who’s that stupid. He’s kind, he’s nice, he’s sort of charming, but he’s just so cheesy and so flawed.”

From a creative standpoint, Fillion also discussed the importance of Phil Dunphy to the storyline. “He is shocked and horrified but the reality is he kind of set us up accidentally,” Fillion tells The Post. “He hates it but it’s also all his fault.”

Although it wasn't the most popular storyline on the show, Fillion definitely played the role the way he was supposed to.

David Beckham's Cameo On Modern Family Was Also Deemed As "Awkward"

The Independent ran a story in 2020 related to David Beckham's Modern Family debut, and it wasn't a kind on judging by the title, 'David Beckham makes awkward Modern Family cameo alongside Courteney Cox.' Although the cameo was very minor and just for a quick laugh, the publication wasn't impressed by Beckham's acting skills.

"In the clip, Beckham can be heard saying: ”Higgins, so myself and Courteney are expecting a bowling instructor. Would you have him meet us downstairs at the bowling alley please?”"

His delivery was met with some raised eyebrows, with one person commenting: “Acting skills very debatable.” Referencing his stunted delivery, another quipped: ”So... Myself... And... Courteney... Are... Expecting... A... Bowling... Instructor.”

Fans on Reddit also felt as though it was a missed opportunity by the show, especially given the way things played out during the hot tub scene.

"I just watched this episode and wondered the same thing!! Manny and Luke didn't even seem to recognize Courteney Cox!!"

That was the point of the scene, as the younger generation didn't recognize the modern day stars. Nonetheless, fans felt like the show dropped the ball given the potential of having both Cox and Beckham on the show.
