Reality TV pioneer Paris Hilton's Malibu home was consumed by the Palisades fire, one of five active fires burning in Los Angeles as of January 9.

"Thousands of firefighters are battling at least five sprawling wildfires spread around the Los Angeles area. The largest, the Palisades Fire, in Pacific Palisades, has scorched over 17,000 acres, destroyed thousands of structures and remains zero percent contained.

"The Eaton Fire, in Altadena, now stands at more than 10,000 acres and zero percent contained. More than 180,000 people have been ordered to evacuate as the infernos spread."

The Palisades fire was first reported on the morning of January 7, and later that day, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag's house was destroyed by the encroaching flames.

Residents of affected neighborhoods in Los Angeles were forced into a tense waiting game as winds influenced the path of the fire.

On January 8, Paris shared a heartbreaking update to Instagram about her home in Malibu, after she learned it hadn't survived the fire.

Paris shared a Reel on January 8, and along with it, a lengthy written caption.

The Reel depicted a local news broadcast on a television, and in the background, a baby cried.

Paris said she watched her house burn down on the news, and her post began:

"Heartbroken beyond words.💔 Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience.😢

"This home was where we built so many precious memories. It's where Phoenix took his first steps and where we dreamed of building a lifetime of memories with London.🥹"

Although she admitted "the loss is overwhelming" and recalled important memories involving her children – a son, London, and daughter Phoenix, Paris also said she was "holding onto gratitude that [her] family and pets are safe."

She added:

"My heart and prayers are going out to every family affected by these fires. To all the people who have lost their homes, their memories, and their beloved pets. My [heart aches] for those still in harm’s way or mourning greater losses.

"The devastation is unimaginable. To know so many are waking up today without the place they called home is truly heartbreaking.💔"

Paris also said that her media company, 11:11 Media, was "already reaching out to nonprofit organizations today to figure out how we can best support the communities impacted by these fires."

She expressed gratitude to firefighters and first responders at length, for putting themselves in harm's way: "I am so grateful for your courage, dedication, and the incredible sacrifices you’re making to save lives and fight this unimaginable battle. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.🙏"

Toward the end of her post, Paris urged fellow Los Angeles residents to heed evacuation orders, and told fans to support one another and to hope the fires would soon be contained.
