One year after Paris Hilton admitted to the abuse she suffered at her boarding school, she and her mom Kathy Hilton discussed the matter further on The Drew Barrymore Show. The discussion arose following the reminder of Barrymore and Hilton's play dates, which occurred while the socialite was home from school.
Hilton admitted to the abuse she suffered at the Utah boarding school in her 2020 documentary This Is Paris. She then discussed the matter further in Feb. 2021 while supporting a bill that would regulate Utah's troubled teen industry.
The family sent the celebrity there when she was seventeen, and left after being enrolled for eleven months. The Provo Canyon School was sold by the original owners in 2000, after Hilton left the institution.
Kathy Would Not Hear Of Her Daughters Opinions Of The Provo Canyon School While She Was Enrolled
During their interview on The Drew Barrymore show, Kathy admitted to not believing her daughter when she told her about her experience at the Provo Canyon School. "I would shut her down because I didn't know the extent of it," she said to Barrymore.
After Paris told her mother that everyone was there was mean and was suffering nightmares, she remembers telling her, "Paris, you were naughty, you didn't listen, and I had to get you out of New York... I don't want to hear it. And then to find this out..."
Paris Described All Of What She Went Through, Leading To Similar Accusations Made By Other Attendees
During the documentary, she admitted to developing PTSD following her time there. The heiress reported that she and other students were physically and psychologically abused, and that she and other students were forcibly given unknown medication. She then admitted to being stripped searched, and placed in seclusion for the first 24 hours.
Shortly after those accusations, Kat Von D posted a video on her Instagram admitting to being sent there for a three-week program that later turned into a six-month program. After sending a thank you to Paris in her caption, the tattoo artist also said,
"I spent those six traumatic months of my teenage years, only to leave with major PTSD and other traumas due to the unregulated, unethical, and abusive protocols of this 'school' - and cannot believe this place is STILL OPERATING."
Like Hilton, she too stated that she was stripped searched, and witnessed students being force-fed medications. She also suffered severe PTSD, and admitted to it being one of the main things that led to her drug and alcohol abuse. However, she has since been sober for more than ten years.
Both Paris and Kathy Hilton continue a close relationship, and have since begun to heal after the documentary and accusations. Provo Canyon School. As of this publication, almost two hundred students attend the school, and allegations from former students have continued to be made based on their experiences. The school has yet to comment on all the accusations made.
