Sometimes when shows are still on top, one or more of the cast members will decide to leave the show, resulting in the show being canceled. Sometimes after playing the same character for years a celebrity is ready to move on to different projects. Some decide to end their shows while they are still popular.

Whatever the reason might be for a hit show to end, fans, and sometimes other members of the cast, are usually pretty upset by the news. Richardson decided to leave Home Improvement after the show's eighth season. It seems she has worried that Allen might have felt bitter about how the show ended.

According to ET, "She decided to walk away, despite intense pressure from the network - and Allen himself - to stay on for more. The pair butted heads over contract negotiations for a ninth season, but Richardson stood her ground."

She also revealed that her character was almost killed off. "So then they went to Tim, and they said let's do it with dead Jill. And then Tim was like, I don't think we can do that. So then he went out and said well, I think it's time to end Home Improvement."

She didn't say that they stayed in touch after the show, however they worked together again on Last Man Standing. Richardson has said she worries Allen has "never really forgiven me for not wanting to do the ninth year."

Richardson said, "He (Allen) loved Tim Taylor. Tim Taylor was this happily married man with his great boys and great life, and so he wanted that show to go on forever."

Although some celebrities might not get along or work well together behind the scenes for various reasons, others might stay in contact with certain people they've worked with over the years. Paula Richardson kept in touch with the actors who played her children on Home Improvement.

According to ET, Richardson works on the national board of SAG-AFTRA with Jonathan Taylor Thomas. "He's been on the national board with me now, and everybody, even the other side, is impressed with Jonathan. He is awesome. But when I first called him I said, 'OK, here's the plan: you're gonna run for the national board and then you're gonna be really big on the national board.'"

She added, "'And then you're gonna be president of SAG-AFTRA and then you're gonna be governor of California and then you're gonna be president of the country. So I've got your whole life planned out for you.'"

Richardson has kept in touch with Taran Noah Smith by communicating with him online ever since Smith took a step away from acting. About Zachery Ty Bryan, Richardson said, "I loved watching Zach work. If you give Zach a direction, he is so instinctive and he is so directive and so brave."

According to E! News, during a Reddit AMA she was asked if "she still kept in touch with any of the cast members". Richardson discussed keeping in touch with her kids from Home Improvement.

She stated, "I do stay in touch with Zach and Jonathan, who in fact have written a really wonderful pilot that is sort of R rated and are shopping it around town. Jonathan also directs Last Man Standing, and I got to see him there."

According to Closer Weekly, Paula Richardson discussed the main reason she decided to leave Home Improvement after season eight. "The reason I turned down the ninth year of Home Improvement was because I was a single [divorced] parent and away from my kids too much."

"I left the show, and I have put my children first since then. That's why I've kept quitting the business: to be with them. She also revealed, "I passed up another show that won, like, 30 Emmys."

"But I don't mean to sound like, 'Oh, I sacrificed this huge thing for my children,' because it's what I wanted...it was also what I needed because I missed them terribly."

According to ET, Richardson commented on the difficulty of getting a role on an incredibly popular show. "If you get a hit show, it is so unusual. It just, really, it's like winning the lottery to have something like Home Improvement."
