Who really knows if The King of Queens reboot is ever to take place. However, what we do know is that when the show was on television, it thrived for almost a decade, lasting nine seasons while airing 207 episodes. The show had the perfect cast, which was lead by Kevin James and Leah Remini. Leah agreed to work the series without even reading a page from the script. She was instantly connected to Kevin James, and she put all her trust in him. Obviously, it worked, as the two played off one another perfectly for many seasons. As for Patton Oswalt, he used the show as a launching pad. We'll take a look at his journey on the sitcom, along with a hilarious prank he was able to get away with on the show. Looking back, it just goes to show what a blast it was to work on such a series.
The King Of Queens Opened Several Doors For Patton Oswalt
It is truly remarkable to see Patton Oswalt's longevity in the acting business. At the age of 53, the comedian has a stellar net worth of $10 million. Although he does a lot of stand-up routines, the comedian admitted it was with TV and movies that his biggest pays and exposure came about.
"A movie like this will hopefully give me the exposure to work with other directors I like, or [give me]the breathing room that if [eccentric horror director] Ewe Boll wants me to go to Germany to do something, I can go. Because I also want to observe Ewe Boll and write about that experience. I still want to be a stand-up and you can’t be a stand-up if you’re not living life," he stated about his time in the 2011 film Young Adults.
Patton hasn't forgotten about his days on the sitcom, The King Of Queens either. According to the actor, having the stability thanks to the show, gave him the opportunity to work at comedy shows at smaller clubs, without having to worry about the pay, while building up his resume at the same time in the field.
In addition, it doesn't hurt that the actor had a blast on the show.
Patton Oswalt Was Dared By The Writers To Not Move For An Entire Scene On The King Of Queens
"King Of Queens was a blast to do, all the writers were stoners, they were always pulling weird pranks," Oswalt hilariously stated on the Howard Stern Show.
Speaking of those very pranks, Oswalt took part in one himself. He was dared by the writers to stand completely motionless throughout an entire scene. Not only did Patton accept the prank, but nobody noticed either!
"I'm in it but I don't have any lines. They told me to standstill and do not move, and let's see if we can get away with it," he said.
Back in 2011, Patton would also send out a tweet about the hilarious experience, which almost has one million views on YouTube.
The actor managed to steal the scene without saying a word, no that's true talent!
Patton Oswalt Praised The Work Of His Co-Stars Kevin James And Leah Remini
In addition to pulling off hilarious pranks, Oswalt had huge praise for the cast, especially Kevin James and his ability to react in front of a live audience. Patton admitted himself, this skill was very hard to learn.
"TV is very hard, very hard to make it look natural. It's such an unnatural setting. You have to pause for the laughs but make it seem part of the conversation. Kevin James was one of them (speaking about the greats), even when he doesn't have dialogue, the way he reacts to things is so hilarious."
Fans on YouTube agreed with Oswalt's thoughts, praising Kevin James as well, "I'm glad he gave a big compliment to Kevin James for his comedic timing. He's 100% right. Kevin James I think gets a lot of flack now for some of his film roles, but he was amazing in King of Queens," one fan stated.
As for Oswalt, his schedule hasn't slowed down one bit, with gigs on various TV shows including Manhunt, Adventures in Wonder Park and The Sandman. He's also currently filming Shatter Belt, another TV series. Props to the actor, writer and comedian for his remarkable consistency throughout the many years in the business.
