Did Paul McCartney Silence His Late Wife, Linda McCartney?
An incredibly accomplished writer, Lesley-Ann Jones has written for a slew of British publications including The Daily Mail, The Sun, and many more. Also, an experienced author, Jones has penned books about many huge stars including David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, and Freddie Mercury.
As a result of her work writing about music greats, Jones has gotten the chance to rub elbows with a slew of superstars. In October 2023, Jones penned a piece for The Daily Mail about one of those interactions that involved Paul McCartney.
According to Jones, Paul McCartney invited her to a party that she attended. Once there, Jones claims her interaction with Paul McCartney made her think about his late wife, Linda McCartney. In her piece, Jones wrote about working with Linda McCartney on a memoir.
"She talked, I scribbled. We mapped out a rough outline. About 30 chapters would trawl through her childhood and teenage years, encompass The Beatles and Wings eras, and also review her roles as a devoted wife and mother — while also exploring her vegetarianism, her animal activism, her photography, her own recording and songwriting, and her philosophy on feeding a family as an act of love."

Paul McCartney Has Big Plans For A Final Beatles Song (With John Lennon)
Paul McCartney has a Beatles song in the works, using modern methods to bring John Lennon's voice back to life.
Jones claimed in her Daily Mail article that there was a lot of excitement about the potential project. However, Jones wrote that she knew from the start that the plans for Linda McCartney's memoir were in peril.
"My agent was thrilled at the prospect of a book by Linda McCartney. He had three publishers ready to outbid each other for the rights. But Linda made it clear from the outset that her husband would have the last word."
Unfortunately for Jones, she allegedly got a disappointing phone call from Linda McCartney. "She sounded tearful sometime later when she called to impart the bad news, that Paul ‘wasn’t going to let her do the book’ after all. She never told me why, exactly."
While Jones wrote about never getting an explanation from Linda McCartney, an insider seemingly discussed the situation with her. In her Daily Mail article, Jones wrote that The Beatles singer's ex-publicist Geoff Baker explained to her why Paul McCartney silenced Linda McCartney.
"'It was Paul, bless him, being a control freak,’ said Geoff. ‘You know what he’s like. There’s too much going on in his head. He gets a bit confused sometimes and loses sight of what matters."
Jones continued describing Baker's explanation, "‘When Linda told him that she wanted to do it, he lost his rag.’ It was along the lines of, Geoff added: ‘There’s only one f***ing star in this family.’" Jones then went on to explain her reaction to Baker's remarks. "Only one star? Paul was wrong about that. Linda was a natural born star."

Paul McCartney Revealed The One Song He Wrote That Was Inspired By Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift went from idolizing Paul McCartney to inspiring one of his songs.
Also in Jones' Daily Mail article, she described seeing Paul McCartney again years after the memoir drama went down. According to Jones, there were very well-defined rules about the party that Paul McCartney invited her to. "No selfies. No conversations."
It is unclear why Paul McCartney would want to throw an event where he wouldn't speak to anyone. Nevertheless, Jones wrote that she attended and those rules quickly seemed to go out the window.
Jones wrote that she believed McCartney treated her differently because he may have recognized her from the memoir drama. Since Jones can't read minds, she can't know that for sure. However, Jones wrote that McCartney broke his own rules by offering to take a photo with her.
"Perhaps it was the reason, in front of everyone, that he slung an arm lightly around my shoulder and said: ‘Come on, Lesley-Ann, let’s have a picture.’ LIPA Companion David Stark stepped forward with a smartphone to take the picture. The room seemed silent, as though we were underwater. I turned my face. Felt Paul’s breath on my cheek. I dared to stare, into the world’s most familiar hazel eyes."
Around the time Jones' article was published, she shared the photo of herself with Paul McCartney on X/Twitter.
