Pete Davidson has reportedly checked into an in-patient treatment facility amid struggles with his mental health. According to reports, the comedian has been struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder as well as borderline personality disorder, a diagnosis he’s been open about in the past.

Page Six notes that he’s staying at the same treatment facility in Pennsylvania that his close friend, John Mulaney, went to for help with alcohol and drug addiction.

While the news has alarmed some fans, a source tells the outlet that this is normal for Pete. “Pete regularly goes to rehab for ‘tune ups’ and to take a mental break, so that’s what’s happening,” they explained.

Another source echoed a similar sentiment to PEOPLE, saying, "Pete will often check himself into rehab to work on these issues. His friends and family have been supportive during this time."

Pete’s decision to enter rehab comes after weeks of controversial behavior. In June, he was charged with reckless endangerment after crashing his car into a home in Beverly Hills. No one was injured in the accident, but Pete’s arraignment is scheduled for July 27. It’s not believed drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.

More recently, just this month, Pete made headlines for leaving an explicit voicemail for Daphna Nachminovitch, the Senior Vice President of cruelty investigations at PETA.

PETA previously called out the Saturday Night Live star for buying a dog from a breeder, rather than adopting.

Though he later apologized for the rant, Pete defended himself by explaining he bought the puppy for his family after their long-time dog had passed away.

“Then this organization (PETA) made a public example of us, making our grieving situation worse,” he stated. “I am upset. It was a poor choice of words. I shouldn’t have said what I said, but I am not sorry for standing up for myself and my family.”

This isn’t the first time Pete has openly sought help for his mental health. Last year, while dating Kim Kardashian, Pete was the subject of a variety of harassment from her ex-husband, Kanye West.

Not only did Ye encourage his fans to harass Pete if they saw him in person, but he called the comedian a variety of explicit names online. Kanye went so far as to release an animated music video to his song “Eazy,” which depicted him burying Pete alive as Kanye raps that he wants to “beat” him.

Kim and Pete eventually broke-up in August 2022 amid reports that difficult schedules were to blame. But many fans believe that Ye’s bullying took a toll on Pete, and ultimately contributed to his split from Kim.

Shortly after their split, it was reported that Pete had entered “trauma therapy” to process the harassment he was facing, not only from Ye but the rapper’s fans.

"The attention and negativity coming from Kanye and his antics is a trigger for [Pete], and he's had to seek out help," a source said. They added, "[Pete] has no regrets for dating Kim and wants it to be made very clear that she's been nothing but supportive of him throughout their relationship."

"Moving forward he just wants to focus on his career," the source concluded.
